An otherwise unrecorded edition of Goethe's classic of 18th-century literature. Despite the considerable popularity of this work, no earlier (or other 18th-century) editions with a Scottish imprint have surfaced. And this one may have a fake imprint - one that does not occur on any other known work. The 'Edinburgh' part may be accurate, but the mis-signing may suggest an American origin. The booksellers are fake. The London publisher Thomas Becket was either bankrupt, dead or both by 1793. There was a Thomas Crafts active in London around 1800, but he didn't print books.
