TranscriptionThe Lamentation, and last Farewel Of Serjeant William Ainslie, who was Executed over the Castle-Wall of Edinburgh, LET all Bold Soldiers far and near, The Castle to Betray. 2 My Name is William Ainslie. my Trust did ne're Betray, 3 While I did in the Castle ly, In Irons close Confin'd My Heart no Ease could find, Since I am Doom'd to Die. 4 That did my Heart intice, The Castle to Surprise ; My Hour is drawing nigh. Most Just Deservedly. 5 Good People, pray do not revile, My Wife and Children dear; Lord to my Soul draw naer : For still to him I'll cry ; Over the Wall to dy. 6 Over the Castle-Wall ; Then to the Ground I fall: Unto the Lord, I'll pray; I just deserve to dy. 7 This Day to see me dy; For me, before I dy: With a strong Rope and Tree; With God who lives on high. 8 I do forgive them here; Oh ! Lord, to me draw near : For unto Thee I'll fly; And for it I must die. 9 That's come to see me die; For all Eternity : My Wife and Children all; Over the Castle-Wall. 10 I desire you all to pray; Since I am brough to die: Take Warning now by me; For which you sea me die.
