by Clement Francis Worsley and Philip John Worsley—November 1902.
Arms of Worsley of Worsley and of Booths, Lancs -.—Argent, a chief gules.
Arms of Stafford or Stockport:—Azure, 3 lozenges or.
Arms of Ottwell Worsley -.—Quarterly 1 and 4, argent on a chief gules,
a crescent or for difference (the difference is occasionally given as
an annulet or), 2 and 3, azure, 3 lozenges or, (Coll. Arms, Vincent
129, 239, dc.)
The family of Worsley, of Booths, Lancs., also lore the coat, Azure,
3 lozenges or, as a quarter (vide Metcalfe's Book of Knights,
Sir Bobert Worsley, dc.)
The same coat was also borne quarterly by the family of Brereton, of
Tatton, as representative of the family of Worsley, of Worsley,
Lancs., (Visitation of Cheshire )
Balph Worsley, of the Worsley Mesnes branch, obtained a grant of Arms
founded on the same coat (Coll. Arms, Philpot, E.D.N., 56, 15.)
Robert de Workesley or Worsley. —
Probably Robert de Workesley, of Booths, in
Worsley, Lancs., called “The Good,” Knight of Shire
for Lancashire, 1374, son and heir of William de
Workesley, of Booths, and tenth in descent from
Helias Gigas, the traditional founder of the family
of Worsley, A.D. 1096.
The said Robert married Isabella, daughter of
Henry de Trafford, of Birches, Lancs., and died
1414/5. His son and heir Arthur Worsley married
Llizabeth, only daughter and heiress of Sir Geoffrey,
last Lord of Worsley, and was ancestor of the present
family of Worsley, of Hovingham, Yorks.
