In making out this List, the following Directions are to be carefully observed : —
I. The List to be made out in triplicate, for their Lordships the Commander-in-Chief, at the
Ports where the Officers are to be borne, and the Accountant-General when Officers are entitled
to Full-pay Leave, otherwise it is to be made out in duplicate, for their Lordships and the
Accountant-General.
II. Foreign Service in a Ship commences on the date of leaving England, and ends upon
her arrival home, the time employed fitting out at home and dismantling after arrival not
being reckoned as Foreign Service. If a Ship returns to England and proceeds again to a
Foreign Station, the time in England is not to be reckoned as Foreign Service.
III. The Actual Foreign Service only is to be specified against each Officer. If an officer has
been checked on leave to England during his service, the period should also be stated.
IV. An Officer taking passage out in a Mail Packet or Private Ship will reckon Foreign
Service from date of embarkation for passage out.
Y. An Officer returning to England, if entitled to Full-pay leave after arrival, is to be borne
on the book of the Depot at whichever port is most convenient to him. The name of such
Depot should be inserted in the left-hand corner on the other side of this Form before the
Officer embarks for passage to England.
VI. The Full-pay only of the respective ranks will be allowed while on leave, excluding
Command Money to Lieutenants in Command, Senior and Gunnery Allowances, and all other
additions to Full-pay.
VII. No advance or Payment on Account is to be made by the Paymasters to an Officer while
on Full-pay leave; the Pay Tickets are to be forwarded from the Flag-Ship to the Accountant-
General, by whom only the time on leave can be investigated and the amount due paid, when
the Officer s leave expires.
VIII. By Orders in Council, it is directed that the leave is only allowed at their Lordship's
discretion, on return from Foreign Service, as follows : —
For every complete six months' service abroad ...... One week
For every month served beyond the last period of six monthB. . . One day
