NAVAL UNIFORMS.
WHITE JACKET.
For all OjJIcers.— White linen, and of the same
shape as the blue Jacket for Commissioned Officers,
but with a roil collar, two buttons in each row, and
two button holes on either side to correspond with
Kbe buttons ; to be worn linked with two No. 2 size
buttons connected by a ring. Shoulders fitted for
straps (except Subordinate Officers.)
lO.-TKOUSEKS.
Laeed.—
Blue cloth, with a gold stripe down the outside
seam—
li inch broad for Officers of Flag Eank.
li Inch broad for Captains, Commanders
and Lieutenants and Officers of
corresponding ranks.
Plain.—
The same as the above, but no gold laee.
WWte.—
Material.— Duck or drill.
l.-WAISTCOATS.
MOENINS.
For all Oncers.— Blue cloth, single breasted, with
buttons.
Evening.
Blue.—
Blue cloth, single breasted, out low, with roll
collar and 4 buttons.
White.—
White marcella, the same pattern as the blue
waistcoat.
12.— EPAULETTES.
For coaveuience in describing the epaulette,
reference is made to its several parts, viz. : the strap,
the crescent, the bullion, and the devices.
Stbap.
For Admiral of the Fleet.— QolA lace, embroidered
with gold oak leaf and acorns, with pearl crescent
and edging of gold.
For all other Commissioned Officers and Commis-
rioned Warrant Oji/ioers.- Plain gold lace, with
pearl crescent and edging of gold.
GOLD Bullions.
Officers of Flag Rank— A double row of loose dead
and bright bullions, 3 inches deep ; the outer row to
t>ave 20 bullions, IS inch in circumference ; the inner
tow to have 19 bullions, |^ inches in circLimfereuce.
Captains, Commanders, Lieutenant-Commanders
and Lieutenants. — A double row of liright iiullions,
si Inches deep; the outer row to liave 20 bullions,
l| inch in circumference ; the inner row to have 19
bullions, 1^ inch in circumference.
Sub-Lieutenants, and Officers of corresponding
rank and Commissioned Warrant UlBcers, Epaulette
straps only — no bullions.
DEVICES.
The devices are : — Crowns ; crossed batons in a
wreath of laurel ; crossed baton and sword ; stars of
two sizes, large* and small, the former 2 inches the
latter li inch in diameter ; anchor and chain cable ;
and crossed anchors. The devices are in silver.
To be placed on the strap according to pattern.
The Epaulette deifiaes of the seivrai ranks are as
follows .—
Admiral of the F/eef.— Acrown, the Eoyal Cypher,
crossed batons surrounded by a wreath of laurel.
"For Eear-Admlralfl and for Officers of other
Braacbes of cmreupoudlng rank.
SDuringthe war Temporary Officers are not required
to pioTlde themselves with a sword ox dirk
Admiral.— A crown, crossed sword and baton,
three stars.
Vice ■ Admiral.— A crown, crossed sword and
baton, two stars.
Rear - Admiral. — A crown, crossed sword and
baton, one large star.
Commodores, and Captains over 3 years' senior'
ity.—A crown, two stars, an anchor and chain
cable.
Captain under 3 years' seniority.— A crown, one
star, an anchor and chain cable.
Commander.— A crown, an anchor and chain
cable.
Lieutenant Commander.— One star, an anchor
and chain cable.
Lieutenant, Sub- Lieutenant and Mate and Com-
missioned Warrant Offlcers.—An anchor and
chain cable.
Officers of the Navigating Branch will wear
crossed anchors without cables instead of
the anchor and chain cable ; in other respects
the devices will be the same as the above,
according to rank.
13.-SHOULDER STRAPS FOE COMMISSIONED
AND WARRANT OFFICERS.
TO BB WOBN WITH GKBAT COAT, WHITE UNDBBSS
AND WHITE JACKET.
For Flag Officers, and. Commodores, 1st Class.— Blae
cloth; the top covered with 2-inch wide gold lace,
showing a margin of J of an inch of cloth ; the same
devices as on the epaulettes, but the large star to Ijo
Ij inch, and the small sturs J inch, in diameter.
For all other Commissio-nuri, Commifsioned tl'ar-
rant, and Warrant Officers. — Blue cloth, with
distinction lace, and coloured cloth, according to
rank and branch, the same as worn on the sleeves
of the frock coat. ^
Shoulder straps to be S.i inches long, 2i Inches
wide and to have a button at the top.
The method of attachment to coats to be In
accordance with sealed patterns.
14.— BUTTONS.
Buttons are of two patterns— A and B,
A. For Officers of Flag Eank,
K. ., all other Officers.
I'ATTBSN A.
A gilt-raised round button with a rope rim encircl-
ing a plain rim, inside of which is a wreath of laurel
surrounding an anchor and cable under a crown,

1. YgOfan inch in diameter (or in button maker's
measui-e .ssiiues ; relief lines).
2. ig of an inch in diameter (or in button maker's
measure 30 lines ; relief 6 lines).
3. .jg of an inch in diameter (or in button maker's
measure 25 lines ; relief oj lines).
They are to be worn as follows :—
Size No. 1. On all Coats and Cocked Hats.
„ ,,2. On Jackets, and Slashes of Full
Dress Coats,
,1 „ 3 On Waistcoats, Epaulettes, and
Shoulder Straps.
ns.-SWOEDS.
For aU Officers.— Qilt mounted, the hilt solid, half
basket . guard, with raised bars, and crown and
anchor badge, lion head backpiece, whito fish skin
gripe, bound with three '?ilt wires ; outside length
6i inches, inside length 4? Inches. The blade slightly
curved, 31} inches long, Ij inch wide at the shoulder,
with a flat back and the blade ground hollow to
within 11 inches of the end with a double edgea

Paymaster Cadets.— Ho sword or dirk.
