6. Commissioned Koyal Marina Gunners, and
Eoyal Marine Gannors, to be eligible for special
promotion for war or distluguished service under
conditions similar to those laid down In Article 299,
Clauses 4 and 6. King's Kegulations and Admiralty
Instructions, for the special promotion of C-om
missiouod Warrant Officers and Warrant Otflcers of
the Eoyal Navy, and Commissioned Royal Marine
Gunners to be eligible for promotion to combatant
commissions in tha same maimer as Eoyal Marino
Gunners.
7. The pay of Commissioned Eoyal Marine Gunners
to be on the same scale as that provided for Com-
missioned Gunners, Eoyal Navy. The pay of
Captains and Majors piomoted under the fore-
going provisions to bo on the same scale as that
applicable to Ijieutenauts and Lieutenant-Com-
ma'idcrs, K.N., promoted from Commissioned
Gunnei, R.N. , respectively. All allowances payable
imder existing regulations to Eoyal Marine Gunners
to bo payable to the Commisbioued Eoyal Marine
Gunners, and the Captains and the Major referred
to In these retaliations imder the same conditions as
if they wore Royal Marine Gunners.
8. Ro5al Marine Gunners, and Officers promoted
from that rank, to be retired compulsorily at
68 years of ige, or at any age for physical unfitness,
but voluntary retirement to be permitted at the
discretion of the Admiralty at or after the age
of 40.
9 The retired pay of Majors and Captains pro-
moted under the foregoing piovisions to be on the
samescileas that applicable to Quartermast6i;s and
pensions lo be granted to Commissioned Eoyal
Marine Ganr.ers and Eoyal Marine Gunners on the
scales applicable respectively to Commissioned
GuQUOrs and Guu'-.ors, Royal Navy.
10 Widows' pensions aad compassionate allow-
aacos for children to be granted on the scales, and
subject to the conditions, applicable to Officers of
CO -i-esp' uding ranii in the Royal Navy.
11 Comm ssioneii Royal Marino Guiuiers, who
have art SLioh tor throe years, may be granted, at the
discretion of the Admiralty, the rank of Captain
Eoyal Marines when pensioned.
Cliief Sclioolmasters.
Promotion.
.Schoolmasters, R.M. (graded as Headmasters),

) The title of Schoolmasters (Hpadmasters> pro-
moted to commissioned warrant rank to be Chief
Schoolmaster.
2 The number of Chief Schoolmasters to be two,

15 vears' service as Ht-admaster.
4 Chief Schoolmasters to retire at 58 years of age.

1. The following appointments will be held by
Warrant Officers :—

A Marina is not m % rule eligible for appoint
uickit as Warrant Officer, if below the rank of
Sergeant, or over 40 years of age j but in oases
desei-vlng of special consideration the Lords Com-
missioners of the Admiralty have power to extend
the limit of age for promotion to such Warrant rank
to 46 years of age (Order-ln-Council 11th A ugust, 1884.)
2. To be retired at the age of 55, or ii phyeically unlit
for further service, and to be retired at an earlier ago
should it be deemed expedient.
3. A Warrant Officer, Class I., Is not to be granted
an annuity tor meritorious service and dlstingnlstied
ooiKiiict.nor s medil or gratuity for long service and
good conduct; but ho may retain an annuity he hM
been grautsd before promotion for distinguished and
Qiaritorioas coadurt. or for conspicuous gallantry in
action ; and he may keep and wear his ijiedai for long
servicB and good conduct. He may also receive a
special pension with the Victoria Oroaa
4. fiandmiieters with previous service in the Koyal
Navy who have been transferred to the Royal Marines
for service as Bandmast'jrs in His Majesty's Fleet^ may,
at the discretion of the Admiralty, be exempted from
the operation of the gonoi-al limits of age for promotion
to Marine Warrant rank.
6. Bandmasters, S.M , and Division.al Bandmasters
Eoyal Marines may, at the dlBcrotion of the Admiralty,
be exempted from the Marine rule as to retirement for
age, and be retained in their appointments Thu
retention in the case of Bandmasters R.M. is to ba for
a limited period, not in any case to exceed 5 yeard
nor uecsBSitating their retention beyond the ago o| 60.
Directors of Mus^c.
1. The number of Directors of Music, R.M., Is
fixed at 2, exclusive of the Musical Director of the
R. N School of Music, to wbcro tbuse provisions no
not apply.
2. Directors of Musis on promotion to that rank
to be granted the rank of Lieutenant. The rank ot
Captaii may be gUen after 10 years' commissioned
service on fall pay. The rank of Major may b(j
given after 16 years' commissioned service on full
pay.
3. Directors ot Music to be compulsorlly retired
at the age of 65.
4. Pay, allowances. Retired Pay, Widow's Pension
and Compassionate Allowances to children to be on
tho same scale as for Quarter-masters. Previous
service In tho rank of 2nd Lieutenant to count
towards Increase of Full and Retired Pay on the
(.juarter-maatera' scale.
6 Under the provisions of Order-ln-Councll ot
lltii October, 1916, the Retired Pay or Pensions of
Royal Marine Officers and Warrant Officers called
out for further service in War or Emergency are
secured to them within certain limits and with
certain restrictions as detailed on page 2271.
