HALF AND RBTIEED PAY DECLARATIONS— com^mMcrf.

Justices of the Peace, includiug Magistrates and Cantonment Magistiates In fndia. Notaries
Public. Ministers of Religion acting and resident in the town or district where they attest.
Officers of the Army Service Corps, Ordnance 8iore or Pay Department of the Army, or of the
Indian or Colonial Governments, authorised to make payments on account of Noa-Effective
Services on behalf of the Imperial Government, Medical Officers, Postmasters or Sub-Post-
maetere of the Government of India or of the Colony in which the declaration is made.
Managers, Deputy, Sub and Assistant Managers, Agents and Sub- Agents of Banks and Branch Banks
(the name of the firmer company being added to the attestation) Licensed Medical Practitioners,
if in attendance on the persons' making the declaration. Folioe Officers of or above the rank of
Sergeant
In Foreign countries. *
British Diplomatic or Consular Officers abroad empowered to administer Oaths, and to do
notarial acts under the Act 18 & 19 Vict., c. 42, or amending Act. Notaries Public, or other person
competent by the lex loci (which in the case of employing such other person must be quoted
sufficiently for verificatiou) to administer such declarations. Ministers of Religion abroad,
resident, for the time being, in the places or districts of attestation, and duly licensed by
Bodesiastical Authority in the United Kingdom to officiate as Chaplains in those places or districts.
For Naval Service only.
Superintendents of Dockyards, Victualling or Medical Establishments of the Royal Navy, or
Officers of Dockyards or Victualling Establishments authorised to make payments on account of
Non-Bffective Services. Heads of Departments, Principal or Superintending Clerks of the
several Departments of the Admiralty. Commanders-in-Chief, Senior Officers, or Officers in
actual command of His Majesty's ships on the Btatiou where they attest. Chaplains actually
serving on board His Majesty's ships on the Station where they attest. The President or the
Cashier of the Hoyal Naval College at Greenwich.
PROCEDURE FOR PLACING OFFICERS ON BAI.F OR RETIRED PAY.
1. Every Officer entitled to Half-pay shall, without application on his part, be placed on the
Half-pay List as soon as his Full-pay account has been settled.
2. Commanding Officers of H.M. Ships are to transmit to the Aocountant-General of the Navy,
immediately that either they or any of the Officers under their command are discharged to Half-
pay, one of the returns herein-after sppcined, and headed respectively "(A) Foreign Service,''
*' (B) Home Service."
'3. Whenever an Officer is discharged abroad to return to England, who will be entitled to Leave
of Absence on Full-pay after arrival, the Forms headed "(A) Foreign Service," directed to be
forwarded to their Lordships, the Commander-in-Chief, and the Accountant-General, are to be
handed to him witli his jiay locuments for delivery ; but If he will not be entitled to such Full-pay
Leave, it will only be necessary to furnish him with the Forms for their Lordships and the
Accouutant-General. The date of his leaving Engiaiid, and also the circumstance under which
he is returning borne, are to be filled in previously ; and should he take passage in a Ship of War,
the (iate of arrival is to be inserted aiid certified by the Commanding Officer of the Ship in which
he takes passage ; should he return to England in any vessel not belonging to the Royal Navy
then the date of arrival is to be ii'serted and certified by the Commander or owners of such' vessel.
4. The Form marked " B," applies to Oificers employed on Home Service.
5. Application for payment of Ualf-pay mav be made to H.M. Paymaster-General at Whitehall
(either personally or by letter) so soon as the iirst monthly or quai terly instalment thereof shall
become due after the date of ceasing Full-pay.
