RETIRED PAY— continued.
The Scale of Retired Pay, according to Age and Service, to be as follows for Staff Captains
Chaplains,* Naval Instructors,* Paymasters-in-Chief, Fleet Paymasters, Staff Paymasters,
and Paymasters.
An addition to be made as specified for each full year of additional sea service, or its equi-
valent, but the same not to exceed 5 years, and a deduction to be made for each full year
wanting to complete the periods specified; but the same not to exceed 10 years.

1. An extra Wl. per annum to be given to Staff Captains, for each year's service in that
rank, provided that the maximum retired pay of £450 per annum is not exceeded. An extra lOi.
per annum to be given to Officers holding the double position of Chaplain and Naval Instructor
for every four years' service in the double capacity, so long as the maximum retired pay of 450Z.
per annum is not exceeded. An extra 10/. per annum to be given to officers holding the position
of Chaplp.in of the Fleet lor each year's service in this office, in addition to any increase such
officer would obtain as Chaplain, but. not to exceed the maximum retire'! ray of 50u/. The
retired pay of Paymasters-in-Chief to be calculated on the above scale up to £450 per annum, but
Officers of that rank to be granted an addition of £10 for each complete year's full pay
service in the rank of Paymaster in Chief on the Active List, subject to the total Retired
Pay not exceeding £500 per annum.
2. The maximum retired pay for the following Officers not to exceed the sums stated against
each rank : —

3. Officers to be allowed, at their option, to retire either upon the above aoale or on the
active Half-pay of their rank at the time of retirement.
4. The retired pay of Chaplains or Chaplains and Naval Instructors entered after the age of 30,
and of Naval Instructors entered alter the age of 25, will not depend on their age, but on their
service only. The provisions contained in first and fourth columns of the Scale of Ketired Pay will
not apply to such Officers ; but the retired pay shall in no case exceed the fixed maximum for
each rank. Should any such Officer have less than 20 years' service lie will be granted on retirement
the active half-pay he has earned by service provided he has attained the age of 55 years : if under
55 he will be granted retired pay or gratuity at the rates indicated in paiagraphs 11 and 13.*

disoretion of the Admiralty, oount all their Junior Servioe for increase of retired pay.

than those fixed by Order in Oounoil of 22 Feb. 1870, vide Orders in Council of 5 Feb
1872, 13th May, 1876, 29 Jan. 1900, 9 Oct. 1903 (parai. 12, 13. 13a. and 14 following), and
