GEORGE GUTHRIE'S FUND
Education of the Sons of Scotsmen Killed or Disabled in the War
This Fund was settled in trust as a Memorial of Lieutenant Georgb Watson Guthrie, M.B., CM.
of the Royal Army Medical Corps, who was killed in action at Beaucourt, France, on November 13th
1916.
The Fund produces an annual free income of about £1,000.
The Trustees are directed to apply the free income of the Fund for the purpose of educating and
training for professional life or for business, or maintaining duiing the period of education and training
(or assisting to educate or maintain) the sons of Scottish officers, warrant officers, non-commissioned
officers, and men of the Royal Navy, the Army, and the Royal Air Force, and their auxiliary services,
wherever resident, who served in the War, and who either were killed in action, or drowned, died of
wounds, accidents, or illness contracted in the course of their active service, or so disabled during such
service as to be unable to give their sons such a position, education, and training as they would otherwise
have been able to do.
After the expiry of twenty-five years from 31st August, 1921, being the date fixed by Law for the
final cessation of hostilities in the late War the Fund is to be transferred to the University of Edinburgh
for the purpose of endowing i>ost-graduate research fellowships, to be known as " Gbosgb Guteirie's
Fkliowships."

The Naval Home Industry was founded in the year 1917 to help the Widows, Orphans and Dependent s
of men of the Royal Navy and Royal Marines to earn money to supplement their pensions, especially
catering for those who due to age or infirmity cannot undertake hard types of work.
They are trained to do expert knitting and crochet work and are paid a small wage while under
training and when pr )ficient they are paid by the piece for the work done, the Industry accepting all
responsibility for telUag the goods produced.
The Industry specialises in ladies' tailor-made cocts and skirt which are entirely hand-made will
wash and never lose their shape. Also knitted jumpers of up-to-date design and colours, suede jackets,
berets, men's pullovers, socks and stockings.
Inspection is invited.
