Admission of Boys into Orphanages, ScFiools,
or other Institutions, at the Expense of
Greenwich Hospital Funds
The Admiralty have power to admit into Orphanages, etc.. Sons of
deceased or incapacitated warrant officers, second mates of Coast Guard Cruisers,
non-commissioned officers, petty officers, and men of the Royal Navy and
Marines (and of men of the Royal Naval Reserve, killed or drowned in the service
of the Crown) .
Cases are considered according to the length, nature, and merit of the
fathers' services, in the following order : —
(1) Total orphans.
(2) Orphans. Fattier killed, diowned, or deceased on duty, mother unable to look aftei
the children.
(3) Exceptional cases.
Applications are not received until the candidates are 7f years of age,
except under special circumstances.
Boys will be examined periodically as to their physical condition and if
fit and desirous for sea service they will be transferred to the Royal Hospital
School, Holbrook ; otherwise they will be retained until 14 years of age.
Forms will be sent on application to the Directors of Greenwich Hospital,
Admiralty, 14, Buckingham Gate, London, S.W.I.
Admission of Girls into Schools to be Maintained
at the Expense of Greenwich Hospital Fund
The Admiralty have power to admit into Schools, etc.. Daughters of Warrant
Officers, Second Mates of Coast Guard Cruisers, and Non-Commissioned Officers,
and Petty Officers and men of the Royal Navy or Marines.
Cases are considered according to the length of the fathers' services at sea,
in the following order : —
(1) Total orphans.
(2) Father killed, drowned, or deceased in H.M. Service.
(8) Father dead.
(4) Father living, mother dead.
(5) Cases not specified in the above classes.
Applications are not received until the cemdidates are 8^ years of age, nor
after 10 years of age, except under special circumstances.

KITCHENER SCHOLARSHIPS
AppUcations are received annually between 1st January and 28th February
from sons of Officers and men or women or of ex-Officers and men or women of
H.M. Forces for a limited number of Kitchener Scholarships tenable at Univer-
sities, Medical Schools, or other institutions approved for advanced training in
Great Britain and Ireland ; candidates for the Royal Navy (Special Entry) may
also be considered.
In addition, not more than five Kitchener Medical Services Scholarships may be awarded to
candidates who desire to take a medical training with a view to obtaining a regular Commission in the
Medical Services of the Navy, Army, or Air Force. Those who wish to be considered for these Scholar-
ships must state their preference or an order of preference when applying.
Applicants must be over 17 and under 20 years of age on the 1st January, but the Conmiittee may
consider applicants over 20 who have already begun an approved course,
No candidate will be eligible unless he declares his readiness to undertake, if physically fit, Military
Service or other approved Service of National importance.
