CHRIST'S HOSPITAL
STOCK'S TRUST
Two boys — sons of Naval Officers — are admitted on foundation of Christ's
Hospital under the above Trust. The Admiralty nominate three candidates for
each vacancy, and the final selection is made by the Council of Almoners of
Christ's Hospital.
The existence of a vacancy is advertised in the principal London papers,
the Army, Navy and Air Force Gazette, and the United Service Gazette.
Candidates must be between the ages of 9 and 1 1 at the date of admission.
Application should be addressed to the
Secretary of the Admiralty.
ROYAL MATHEMATICAL FOUNDATION
The Council of Almoners of Christ's Hospital also have 40 places reserved
in the Boys' School of Christ's Hospital, Horsham, for sons of Officers, whether
living or deceased, who hold or have held Commissions in the Royal Navy, Royal
Marines or Royal Naval Reserve, and whose services are certified by the
Admiralty to have been satisfactory. The main qualifications are that the parents
must be in need of assistance and that the boys must be between the ages of
9 and 11 when admitted to the School. Maintenance and a public school
education are provided at the cost of the Foundation, but in cases where the
Council are of opinion that the parents can contribute to the cost, contributions
are required, ranging from £10 to £40 a year, according to circumstances.
Beyond such contributions there are only a few trifling expenses to the parents
for games, underclothing, railway fares, &c. The Council have also a Fund
for assisting such of the boys who, on leaving School, enter the Royal Navy
as Cadets, &c. Forms of application and full particulars can be obtained on
application to the Clerk of Christ's Hospital, 26, Great Tower Street, E.C.3.
THE ROYAL NAYAL SCHOLARSHIP FUND
(FORMERLY THE ROYAL NAVAL SCHOOL.)
The Governors of the above Fund award a certain number of Scholarships
as they become vacant from time to time, to sons of Naval and Marine Officers
of not less than Ward-room rank. No examination is required.
Junior Scholarships (not exceeding £20 per annum for day boys, or £40
per annum for boarders) are awarded to candidates between the ages of 8 and 16,
and may be tenable till the age of 18. They are tenable at any Secondary
School approved by the parent or guardian of the Scholar and by the Governors,
which is on the *List of Secondary Schools Recognised by the Board of
Education as Efficient, or which is specially approved by the Board of
Education for the purpose ; or at any Institution, of technical, professional, or
industrial instruction approved by the Governors. There are in addition a few
special Scholarships of £50 per annum, one of which is tenable at Oundle School.
Nominations are also available for two Scholarships of £65 per annum each at
Ferden School, Jiaslemere, and one of £30 at King Alfred's School, Wantage,
Berks, and four of seventy-five guineas each per annum at Hazelwood School,
Limpsfield, Surrey.
Senior Scholarships (not exceeding £50 per annum) are awarded to
candidates between the ages of 16 and 19. They are not tenable for more than
four years and may be held at any University or any Institution of technical,
professional or industrial instruction approved by the Governors.
