1. Objects:—
To afford relief to distressed officers of the Royal Navy, their widows, orphans,
mothers and sisters.
2. Subscription:—
For all officers on the active list of and above Ward-room rank and all
officers on the retired list who held such rank whilst still serving on the active
list, the annual subscription to the Society is one guinea ; but, in the cases of
officers on full-pay, half-pay or retired pay whose service emoluments are less
than one guinea a day, the annual subscription may be one day's service emolu-
ments which the officer was receiving on the 1st January in each year. Life
membership may be secured on payment of a sum of not less than ^10.
3. Assistance:—
Grants are made by a Quarterly Court on the recommendation of the
Committee. Only one grant is made to an applicant in any one year, but the
number of recipients in a family is not limited.
4. General Remarks:—
Membership of the Society is in the nature of an insurance against unforeseen
misfortunes that may happen to officers or their near relations owing to illness,
accident, old age or other cause.
Officers desirous of joining are requested to forward their subscriptions to
the Secretary, from whom Banker's Order forms and any further information
regarding the Society can be obtained.
The Royal Naval Benevolent Society should not be confused with the Royal
Naval Benevolent Trust.

PROVIDENT SOCIETY
Established in 1889 to provide Annuities for the Widows (or Orphan
Children) of its Members.
Officers holding permanent Commissions in the Royal Navy, Army,
Royal Marines, Royal Indian Navy, or Royal Air Force are eligible for
membership provided they are under 50 years of age. Each officer may
take up either one, two, three or four Memberships.
Under present rules an Annuity of £2 10s. for each Membership
(£10 for four Memberships) is payable when the Membership has been
held for six years. The annuity increases after each subsequent year up
to a maximum of £13 for each Membership (£52 for four Memberships).
If death takes place before the Membership has been held for six years
the contributions are refunded to the widow (or orphan children).
