ABBREVIATIONS, &c.
Met) . In the Seniority List denotes
an Officer who has qualified
in Meteorology on comple-
tion of 12 weeks' course. In
a ship an Officer appointed
for Meteorological Duties.
(K) . .In the Seniority List denotes
an Officer who has qualified
for Navigating Duties (but
has not passed for first class
ships), and who is actually
employed, or is available for
employment, on such duties.
(Fit) • • In the Seniority List denotes
an Officer who has passed for
first-class ships, and is actu-
ally employed, or is available
for employment, on Naviga-
ting Duties.
(K) . . In a ship, denotes an Officer
borne for Navigating Duties.
(0) . . Before the name of an Officer
in the Seniority List denotes
that the Officer has qualified
and has been confirmed as
Naval Observer. In a ship
denotes an Officer confirmed
as observer and borne for
Observer Duties.
(F) . . Before the name of an Officer
in the Seniority List denotes
that he is qualified for Pilot
duties in the Fleet Air Arm.
(Pho) . Before the name of an Officer
in the Seniority List denotes
that he is qualified for Air
Photographic Duties in the
Fleet Air Arm.
p.a.c. . For Marine Officers below the
rank of Colonel denotes
that they have passed the
Advanced Class at the Mili-
tary College of Science.
p.s.c. . In the Seniority List in the
case of a Naval Officer
below the rank of Captain
. denotes that he has passed
the Staff Course at the R:N.
Staff College, Greenwich.
p.s.c. (n) . In the case of a Marine
Officer below the rank of

tained an advanced certifi-
cate on passing out of the
Royal Military School of
Music.
QC . . In the Seniority List denotes
a Warrant Officer or Officer
promoted therefrom who is
qualified for command of
seagoing small craft under
Art. 361 K.R. and A.I.
(R) . .In the Seniority List before
the name of an Executive,
Medical, or Marine Officer,
denotes that he is qualified
to act as an Instructor in
Physical Training.
In a Ship, that such Officer is
appointed for Physical
Training Duties.
® . .In the case of a Medical Officer
denotes that he has been
through a long course of
Physical Training.
(St) • • In the Seniority List denotes
an Officer who has undergone
the Advanced Wireless Tele-
graphy Course at Greenwich.
(S) . In the Seniority List denotes
an Officer who has passed in
both Visual Signalling and
Wireless Telegraphy.
In a ship, an officer qualified
as above who is performing
either or both of these duties.
(S.C.) . . In the case of a Marine Officer
or denotes that he has passed a
(s.c.) Senior War Staff Course at
Minley Manor or Junior War
Staff Course at Camberley,
respectively.
(S/D) . In the Seniority List denotes
a Boatswain who has been
a Submarine Detector In-
structor or has qualified in
a special anti-submarine
course.
(S M) . In the Seniority List denotes a
Senior Master.
SM . . In the Seniority List denotes
an Officer who has qualified
in Submarine Duties, and is
available for service in Sub-
marines. The prefix will
be removed from the names
of Officers who voluntarily
• revert to General Service
or for whom no further
employment is available in
Submarines
