THE NAVY RECORDS SOCIETY.

The Navy Records Society was founded in 1893 for the purpose of
rendering acceesibie the sources of our Naval HiBtory. Since then it has
published seventy -seven volumes dealing with strategy, tactics, signalling,
administration and social life, and including the personal correspondence
and official despatches of Nelson, Hood, St. Vincent, Spencer, Sandwich,
Drake and Pepys.
The annual subscription is one guinea, which entitles members
to receive one copy of each work issued for that year and to purchase
back volumes at reduced prices.

THE SOCIETY FOR NAUTICAL RESEARCH.

To encourage research into nautical antiquities, into matters relating
to sea-faring and ship-building in all ages and among all nations, into the
language and customs of the sea, and into other subjects of nautical interest.
The Society has erected a Monument to the Van de Veldes in St.
James's, Piccadilly ; raised £107,000 to save Nelson's Flagship, and has
superintended the restoration of H.M.S. " VICTORY " to her appearance
at Trafalgar ; paved the way to the establishment of a National Maritime
Museum at Greenwich and a Victory Museum at Portsmouth ; organized
Exhibitions of Nelson Relics and Naval Prints, etc., at the Guildhall,
Whitechapel, Plymouth, Birkenhead and Hull ; and issued sundry
periodical publications dealing with Nautical Ajchseology.
The annual subscription of one guinea entitles members to receive
The Mariner^s Mirror (an illustrated quarterly journal of over 100 pages),
the Annual Report (100-200 pp., illustrated) ; to attend the Annual
Meetings, which have been held at the R.U.S.I., Trinity House and the
Royal Naval College, Greenwich, and the Annual Lectures which have been
held at the Fishmongers', Clothworkers', Salters' and Drapers' Halls, and
have dealt with " The Great Harry," Primitive Craft, Samuel Pepys,
Coastal Craft, Harrison's Timekeepers, and Flags in Marine Art.
