PENSIONS TO SEAMEN.
The following information, extracted from the Regulations as to Pensions, is pub-
lished for information, but it must be understood that all pensions, &c, are given at
the discretion of the Admiralty, or, in the case of Disablement or Injury Pensions,
of the Minister of Pensions, and that no man has any right to pension on
account of apparent eligibility under the rules herein published.
NAVAL PENSIONS .
Long Service Pensions are granted to Continuous
Service Men after 22 years' service from the age of 18;
to Non-Continuous Service Men after 22 years r serviee
from the age of 20.
The following scale is adopted In awarding the
ordinary Amount of Long Service Pensions to Petty
Officers and Seamen of the Fleet :—

Where a man has received an injury on duty not
Incapacitating him for service, a small addition can
be made to his long-service pension, or a gratuity
may be awarded.
The time during which a man may have borne an
Indifferent or bad character is forfeited.
Men discharged the service on account of injuries
and wounds (except rupture) attributable to the
service receive pensions either for life or for a limited
period, at the discretion of the Admiralty, according
to the following scale :—

* These rates are doubled for Petty Time with very
good character in the case of continuous service
Petty Officers, provided they shall have served for
one continuous period of not less than ten teaks,
and shall be discharged to pension from continuous
service with the rating of Petty Officers, or with a
rating ranking as Leading Seaman with over 3
years' service as such.
t In cases of men eligible for Long Service Pension
on completion of 20 years' service, the maximum
pension for Service, Badges, Character and Medal,

If totally blind from unavoidable causes, clearly
attributable to the service, 3d. a day in addition.
The usual allowance for Petty Time is given in
addition to the above rates, and is doubled for such
time when served with very good character in the
case of Continuous Service men holding Petty
Officers ratings, irrespective of the length of their
continuous service.
The allowances for Badges and Medal are also
given as in the case of Long Service Pensions.
Men discharged for rupture attributable to the

The usual allowances for Petty Time, Badges and
Medal are given as in injury cases.
A Seaman discharged as medically unfit, such
unfitness being either attributable to or aggravated
by service during the present war, and not being due
to his serious negligence or misconduct, may be
granted a minimum pension at the rates shown In the
Schedule on next page, or, In the case of injury not
shown therein, or of disease, at the rate which is
estimated to represent the extent of his disablement.
The allowances for Badges, Modal and Petty Time
are given as in the case of Long Service Pensions,
and an additional allowance Is given for service as
follows:—

Additions are made for children under the age of
16 at such proportion of the following weekly rates
as corresponds to the degree of disablement at which
the man is assessed for pension :—

In cases in which a man s earnings, together with
his pension and children's allowances, if any, can be
shown to amount to less than his pre-war earnings,
a special pension may be granted within certain
limits.
Special allowances may be given in cases in which
treatment in a Sanatorium or other Institution, or
training in a Technical Institution or otherwise, in
deemed advisable, or in which the constant attend
ance of a second person is necessary.
Gratuities may be given where a man's disable-
ment is assessed at less than 20 per cent.
