GREENWICH HOSPITAL PENSIONS.
Tbese Pensions are the " Age " and " Special
Pensions,"
They are given entirely at the discretion of the
Admiralty, and are not granted to any person whose
•eharacLer whilst in or after leaving the Navy has not
been good.
Age»PensIons are given to Naval Pensioners only
<i.e., to Seamen, Marines, Yard Craftsmen, and
3llggers of Dockyard).
Age Pensions are given only to Lite Pensioners.
A Naval Pensioner is eligible tor the Age Pension
of Sd. a duy on attaining the age of 56, if te has been
tn receipt of his pension for 6 years ; and for the in-
crease of snch ago pen>ion to 9rf. a day at the age of
^, if ho has been in ret;eipt of his Naval Pension for
10 years.
The nnmberof Pensions in force at anyone time is
limited, and will be determined from time to time
according to the funds available for the purpose ; the
vacancies to bo tilled by selection from among the
oldest and most necessitous candidates.
These regulations are not to affect any Pensioner in
feceipt of an Age Pension in Juiy, 1878, or any Pen-
sioner who, being already in receipt of 5d. a day, will
be eligible for the additional id. a day on attaining
the age of 66.
The Deterred Pension of Marines gives no claim to
' the Ago Pension.
Special Pensions are given at the discretion of, and
■ ander Kegulations framed by ihe Admiralty, to men
anable to contribute materially to their own support,
and vary in amount and duration according to each
man's degree of disability, the other circumstances
of his case, and the amount of the funds available.
They are tenable in addition to Naval and Age Pen-
■sionB.nQbject, however, to the limits expressed in the

Classes III. and IV. Men who have not less than 5

wounds and whose disability is clearly the result of

Class V. Special cases, including—
Men who have been granted a war medal or clasp,
or wlio were employed in the Franklin Search Expedi-
tion ; or who were injured on duty.

In cases of exceptional need or distress special
Pensions in excess ol the above rates may be granted
within a maximum of 2s. ed. a day.
Men discharged tor venereal complaints, unless
they are lite pensioners, or, whose general character
has been inferior to " good," or who were discharged
in good health with less than 12 years' service, unless
they come under class V., are ineligible for Special
Pensions, as are men in workhouses.
Men eligible for the benefits of Greenwich Hospital
may be admitted to Hospitals if in urgent need of
temporary treatment.
