II.— Flag Officers.
Admirals

7 years since their nag was hauled down,
or, if they have not hoisted their flag,
since their " Service " as Captain
ceased.
(o) Officers promoted to Flag Rank after
8>h December. 1903 and to Admiral
prior to 1st April, 1914.
5 years since their last " Service " as
Flag Officer.
(c) Officers promoted to Admiral on or
after 1st April, 1914.
3 years since their last " Service " as
Flag Officer, but not until they have
completed one year on the list of
Admirals, subject to '6) above.
(o) Officers promoted to Vice-Admiral
prior to 1st April, 1914.
6 years since their last "Service" as
Flag Officer, or on promotion to the
rank of Admiral if they have not
served as Vice-Admiral.
(6) Officers promoted to Vice-Admiral
on or after 1st April, 1914.
3 years since their last " Service " as
Flag Officer, but not until they have
completed one year on the list of Vice-
Admirals,
{a) OMcers promoted to Flag Rank before
1st April, 1914.
3i years since their last " Service "
Rear-Admiral, or, if they have not
thus served, 31 years since their pro
motion to rank of Rear Admiral or 5
years since their last "Service" as
Captain.
(6) Officers promoted to Rear-Admiral on
or after 1st April, 1914.
2J years since their last " Service " as
Rear-Admiral, or, if they have not
served aB Rear-Admiral. 2j years since
their promotion to Rear-Admiral, or 3
years since their last "Service" as
Captain; or. if they have not hoisted
their flag ar. sea , on promotion to Vice-
Admiral.
Note Flag Officers promoted on or after 1st April,
1914, while serving, will not count their service in their
new rank to save them from compulsory retirement for
non-service in that rank in cases where the Admiralty
has definitely assigned the appointment to an Officer of
the lower rank.
♦Admirals of the Fleet promoted to that rank
after the 16th July, 1914, are to be retired after 5
years from the date of such promotion, but no
Admiral of the Fleet to be placed on the retired list
under the age of 65.
2. To be retired at any age, at the discretion of the
Admiralty, if found physically unfit to serve.
8. Flag Officers who reach the age of 60 without
having hoisted their flags as Flag Officers to be then
retired.
4. Any Flag Officer (except Admiral of the Fleet) i
whose flag has not been hoisted during a period of seven
years, to be retired at the expiration of such period.
5. To have the option of retiring at any age, at the
discretion of the Admiralty.
6. Admirals of the Fleet to receive, on retirement, the
half-nay of their rank, and to be styled Retired
Admirals of the Fleet.
7. Admirals, Vice' Admirals and Rear- Admirals to be
allowed on retirement to receive, at their option, either
the half-pay of the rank from which they retire or the
retired pay provided by the Regulations.
8. Vice-Admirals and Rear-Admirals retired from
those ranks are entitled to rise by seniority to the rank
of Retired Admiral, except as provided in para. 9.
9. In the case of Officers promoted to the rank of Captain
on the Active List after 19th March, 1908. Rear-Admirals
retired from that rank will be entitled to rise by
seniority to the rank of retired Vice-Admiral only.
III.— Captains.
1. To be retired on reaching the age of 55.
2. (a) Until the 31s* December, 1914.
To be retired so soon as 3 years have elapsed since
their last " Service " as Captain, or, if they have
not served »s Captain, as soon as 3 years have
elapsed since their promotion to that rank.
(6) On and after 1st January, 1915.
To be retired as soon as 2 years have elapsed since
their last "Service" aB Captain after having been
appointed to the command of one of H.M. Ships,
or 3 years if they have not served as Captain.
3. Captains whom it is decided not to employ furtbnr
after promotion to Flag rank, to be retired, at Admirall y
discretion, on promotion to the iank of Rear- Admiral.
4. To be retired on arriving at their turn for pro-
motion without having completed the qualifying service
for promotion.
5. To be retired at any age, at the discretion of the
Admiralty, if found physically unfit to serve.
6. To have the option of retiring at any age at the
discretion of the Admiralty.
7. Captains to be allowed, on retirement, to receive
at their option either the active half-pay of that rank
or the retired pay provided by the Regulations.
8. One step in rank, according to seniority, to te
granted to all Captains placed on the Retired List
irrespective of any qualifying Service.
9. Captains retired from that rank (unless retired
on account of non-service) to rise to the rank of
Vice-Admiral on the Retired List if before retire-
ment they have served the time necessury to quaMf r

on the Active List, except a provided in para. 10.
10. In the case of Officers promoted to the rank of
Captain on the Active List after 19th March, 1908,
Captains retired from that rank will be entitled to rise
by seniority to the rank of retired Rear-Admiral only,
if before retirement they have served the time to qualify
them for promotion,
