All such Officers holding appointments in His
Majesty's Yards, if not entitled to civil superannua-
tion, shall be allowed to count such service as time
towards pension, on the above scale.
In the event of Commissioned Warrant Officers.
Warrant Officers and Divisional and other Chief Officers
of Coast Guard on shore having mstained injuries on
duty not nearly equivalent to the loss of a limb, or
being disabled by sickness contractedjin the service,
and not from want of proper care on their own part,
an increase of notmoreihanioi.a year maybe made to
whatever Retiring Allowance may be awarded to
them under the foregoing scale, provided they have
not already received compensation for the same.
For ruptures and minor injuries received on duty
gratuities shall be granted under Article 1913 of the
Regulations, at the discretion of the Admiralty,
instead of the above increase.
"Whenever an application for a pension on account of
age, long service, or disability is made by any such
Officer who has received a wound or injury in the
service, theCaptain will direct the Medical Officer to
make a report, which he will forward with the
application, for the information of the Admiralty,
stating clearly the extent to which the injury affects
the applicant, and the degree in which it incapaci-
tates him from contributing towards his own support;
if the injury was received before the 30th of August,
1870, and no hurt certificate is produced, the appli-
cant's statement should be supported by any docu-
nr>«nfRrv evidence that can be produced.
Special Pensions, or gratuities in excess of th
foregoing scale for service may, at the discretion of
the Admiralty, be awarded when special servici s
have been rendered requiring special reward ; »nu
such lower rates of pension as the Admiralty may
think proper may be granted fcn officers who have
b sen found to he unworthy of further employment.
Time during which an officer shall not nave main-
tained a good character in the ships in which he
has served shall not be allowed to reckon as service
for Pension.
Commissioned Warrant Officers, Warrant Officers
and Divisional and other Chief Officers of Coast Guard
on shore in such cases as may be for their advantage
may be pensioned on the scale for seamen, their
service in the abow ranks being allowed to reckon
as superior petty time.
All Commissioned Warrant Officers and Warrant
Officers who have been dismissed froii. His
Majesty's service for what may be considered
venial offences in the case of seamen, may, at the
discretion of the Admiralty, be allowed Naval Pen-
sions on the seamen's scale, provided they have
twenty-one years' service, or are from age or other
causes unfit for service as seamen in the Navy In
such cases the time served as Warrant Offlceri
may be allowed to reckon an superior single petty
time under Article l938of the King's Regulations.
The Pensions of Commissioned Warrant Officers and
Warrant Officers will be held only during good behaviour
The case of a Chief or other Officer of Coast Guard
Cruisers, who may sustain a wound or injury on duty,
will be specially considered.
Chief and Head Schoolmasters
1. Retiring Pensions shall be awarded to Chief and
Head Schoolmasters under the following i egulations :—
a. They shall be pensioned at 6B years of age, or at aDy
less age, if found unfit for, or unworthy of, further
employment ; and they may be pensioned, by the
permission of the Admiralty, at their own request,
at 50 years of age. Chief and Head Schoolmasters
may, however, be retained on the Active List up to
the age of 60, if the Admiralty considers that it will
be for the benefit of the Service.
6. The following shall be the scale of Pensions, but
Chief Schoolmasters shall receive an additional
sixpence a day for each year'B service as Chief School
master, up to a maximum Pension of £150 a year :—

Head Schoolmasters in the Navy on 1st July, 1889, will reckon all time served in that rating as Warrant time.
2. Head Schoolmasters will be pensioned on the terms laid down in Art. 1939 of the King's Regulations for
Naval Schoolmasters in cases in which such terms will be to their advantage, service in the rank of Head School-
master counting as superior Petty time.
