UNIFORM REGULATIONS FOR CHIEF PETTY OFFICERS,
PETTY OFFICERS, MEN, AND BOYS OF THE FLEET, AND
FOR BOYS IN THE TRAINING ESTABLISHMENTS.

The following revised letterpress to the Instructions, relative to the Uniform!
to be worn by the Petty Officers, Men, and Boys of the Royal Navy, is to b«
substituted for that promulgated in March, 1907.

UNIFORM REGULATIONS FOR CHIEF
PETTI OFFICERS, PETTY OFFICERS,
MEN, AND BOYS OF THE FLEET, AND
FOR BOYS IN THE TRAINING ESTAB-
LISHMENTS.
UNIFORM.
The Officers, Men, and Boys of His Majesty's Fleet,
and the Royal Marines, Bhall wear such Uniform? as
the Admiralty In pursuance of His Majesty's pi asure,
shall from time to time direct. (Art. 4 and 104 of
the King's Regulations and Admiralty Instructions,
1913).
Patterns of Uniform.
The Patterns of Uniform as shown in these Regula-
tions are to be strictly adhered to, and no deviations
whatever allowed.
Material for Clothing.
All materials for Uniform Cloth'ng authorised to be
worn by Naval Ratings are supplied through the
Victualling Yards.
No material is to be worn of a quality inferior to ihe
service article or deviating trim it i > pattern or
colour. Should a man provide himself with any si eh
clothing it will l ot be accepted as part of his kit. This
remark applies equally to all made-up articles of clolb
iBg, i.e. hats, jerseyt, boots, &c
Marking of Clothes.
The clothes of all ratings are to be marked.
The clothes of men dressed as Seamen are to be
marked as follows, with a |-iuch type, block letters :—
Blue clothes— with white paint.
White clothes and bedding- witli black paint.
Jerseys and comforters -with red worsted.
Overcoats and jacketB - iu upper part of sleeve.
Trousers, drawers, and cholera bolts— on the inside
of the waistband at the back.
Jumpers (except working jumpers)— under the
collar
Working jumpers- on the back cloBe up to Ihe
eollar-seam.
Uanvas overall Jacket— on the back close up to the
collar, on the inside.
Flannels and check shirts— on tho tail.
Hats and caps— in crown.
Cap covers— on the band inside.
Towels, handkerchiefs — diagonally across '.he'
corner.
Boots and shoes— inside the upper.
Jerseys -on the inside of the bottom tabling.
Note. The marking of clothes of Class I. and (lass
III. is to conform as far as possible with that laid down I
for Class II.
Marking of Bedding.
The Bedding of all ratings is to be marked as follows,
with 1-inch type, block letters :—
Beds— on the fool, the name facing the foot.
Blankets— at the head, the name facing the foot. 1
Bed covers— at the sewn-up end facing the open i
end on top.
Marking of Cap Boxes and Ditty Boxes.
Cap box— The nam« is to he stamped on a brass
plate |-inch wide, which is to be rivetted to«
the outside of the box in the centre ot the lid.
Ditty box— The name is lo be stamped on a brasl
pl.te j-inch wide, which is to be screwed to
the box immediately under the keyhole.
Inspection of Clothing and Bedding
At musters and inspections of kit the clothing and bed-
ding are to be laid out in the manner shown in sketches,
copies of which are to be posted on the mesB deck for
general information and guidance.
NOTE —The following articles are those which are to
be considereil strictly uniform within the meaning of
Art. 759 of the King's Regulations and Admiralty In-
structions, 1918:—
Duck Uniform Jumper*.
Blue jean collars.
Hlue cloth cayis.
tiennet hats
Hat or cap ribbons.
Distinctive marks, such at bodges of rating, good
conduct, gunnery, etc.
