GEORGE THE SIXTH, by the Grace of God, of
Great Britain, Ireland and the British Dominions
beyond the Seas, King, Defender of the Faith,
Emperor of India ; to all to whom these Presents
shall come, Greeting 1
Whereas His late Majesty King George V, by a
Warrant under his Royal Sign Manual dated the
5th day of February, one thousand nine hundred
and thirty-one, was pleased to make, ordain and
establish rules and ordinances for the governance of
the Decoration of The Victoria Cross resei-ving to
Himself, His Heirs and Successors full power of
annulling, altering, abrogating, augmenting, inter-
preting or dispensing with those rules and ordinances
or any part thereof, by a notification under Royal
Sign Manual ;
And Whereas on 1st April, 1937, Burma ceased to
be part of India, and We are desirous that Officers,
Non-Conmnissioned Officers and Men of Our Biu-ma
Army and other Military Forces in Burma shall be
considered eligible for the award of the Decoration;
Now Therefore We do by these Presents for Us,
Our Heirs and Successors ordain and appoint that the
Fifth Paragraph of the Sixth Clause and the Eighth
and Eleventh Clauses in the said Warrant shall be
cancelled and annulled and the following substituted
therefor : —
(5) British, Indian or Burman officers and men
of all ranks of Our Indian and Burma Armies,
■ the Indian States' Forces of Indian States or
any other Forces serving in India or Burma
under the command, guidance or direction of
any British, Indian or Burman Officer, or of
a Political Officer attached to such Forces
on Oiur Behalf, and
Eighthly : It is ordained that every recommendation
for the award of the Decoration of the Cross shall be
made and reported through the usual channel to the
Senior Naval, Military or Air Force Officer Commanding
the Force, who shall call for such description, conclusive
proof, as far as the circmnstances of the case will
allow, and attestation of the act as he may think
requisite, and, if he approve, he shall recommend
the grant of tlie Decoration to Our Lords Commissioners
of the Admiralty, Our Principal Secretary of State for
War or Our Principal Secretary of State for Air, as
the case may be, who shall submit to Us the names
of every one so recommended whom they shall consider
worthv ; in the case of there being no British, Indian
or Burman Officer, then the Political Officer attached
to the Force shall, after obtaining conclusive proof
of the act of bravery as far as is possible, if he approve,
submit the recommendation to Us through the proper
channels.
Eleventhly : Every Indian Officer of Our Indian
Army and Burman Officer of Our Burma Army of
rank junior to that of Second-Lieutenant who shall
have received the Cross shall, from the date of the act
by wliich such Decoration has been gained, be entitled
to a special pension of five hundred and twenty-flve
rupees a year, and each additional Bar conferred on
such Indian or Burman Officer shall carry with it
an additional pension of one hundred and fifty rupees
a year. In the case of a Warrant or Non-Commissioned
Officer or soldier of our Indian or Burma Armies
aforesaid We ordain and award a special pension of
one hundred and fifty rupees a year, with seventy-five
rupees a year additional for each additional Bar.
On the death of a recipient of the Cross to whom
this clause applies, the pension shall be continued to
his widow until her death or remarriage.
Given at Our Court at St. James's, this 9th day
of May, in the Second year of Our Reign
in the year of Our Lord one thousand nine
hundred and thirty-eight.

ordain and establish rules and ordinances for the
governance of the Decoration of The Victoria Cross,
reserving to Himself, His Heirs and Successors fuU
power of annulling, altering, abrogating, augmenting,
interpreting or dispensing with those rules and
Drdinances, or any part thereof, by a notification
under Royal Sign Manual :
And Whereas by a Warrant under Our Sign
Manual dated the 9th day of May, 1938, We did
Drdain that Officers, Non-Commissioned Officers and
Men of Our Burma Army and other MiUtary Forces
in Burma should be considered eligible for the award
of the Decoration :

And Whereas by a Warrant under Our Sign
Manual dated the 14th day of September, 1938, We
did deem it expedient to introduce into Our Regular
Army a new class of Warrant Officer :
And Whereas We deem it expedient that the
said Wan-ant dated the 5th day of February, 1931,
should be amended to provide for the award of the
Decoration to all classes of Warrant Officers :
Now Thereeoee We do by these Presents for Us,
Our Heirs and Successors ordain and appoint that
the Sixth Clause, sub-paragraphs (3) and (4), shall
be altered by the deletion of the words " , Classes 1
and II," and that the said alterations shall have
effect from the 14th day of September, 1938.
Given at Our Court at St. James's, this 21st day
of August, in the 3rd year of Our Reign, and
in the year of Our Lord one thousand nine
hundred and thirty-nine.
