War Services of Staff Officers of Pensioners.
10 Captain John P. Pigott served with the 3-2d at the 1st and 2nd siege operations before Mooltan, including the
attack on the suburbs on the 27th Dec. 1848, storm and capture of the city, and surrender of the fortress : also
present at the surrender of the fort and garrison of Cheniote, and battle of Goojerat (Medal and Clasps).
17 Captain Steele served at the capture of Java in 1811 as an officer of Royal Marines, and has received the ar
Medal with one Clasp.
18 Lieut. Peddie served in Holland with the *21st Fusiliers in 1813 and 14, and w’as present at the attack on
Merxem, the bombardment of the French fleet at Antwerp, and assault on Bcrgen-op-Zoom.
Hi Major Donelan served with the 48th llegt. in the operations against the Rajah of Coorgh, in April 1834.
20 Captain Follows was present with the 43rd Light Infantry in the attack on New Orleans in Jan. 1815. He
landed with his Regt. at Ostend on the 18th June following, and was present at the capture of Paris.
21 Lt.-Col. Phibbs served in ihe Peninsula, with the 27th, from Nov. 1813 to the end of that war in 1814,
including the buttles of the Nivelle, Orthes, and Toulouse, for which hehas received the War Medal with three Clasps.
Served afterwards in the American war, and was present at the taking of Plattsburgh. Lost his left arm, and was
shot through both legs at the battle of the Nivelle.
22 Major William O’Neill served as a volunteer with the 83rd from 1st Feb. 1812 to the 12th of August
following, when he was appointed to an ensigney in that regiment, present with it at the battle of Salamanca
capture of Madrid and the Retiro, retreat from Madrid and Salamanca,battle of Yitloria, blockade of Pampeluna,
1 allies of the Pyrenees (from 27ih to 30th Jnly), Nivelle, Nive, and Orthes, actions of Sauveterre, Vic Bigorre, and
Tarbee, and battle of Toulouse, besides several affairs and .skirmishes : he has received the War Medal with eight
Clasps. He served afterwards in Ceylon during the Kandian war in 1817, 18, and 19, and was the individual
officer who made the two Kandian chiefs together with many of their followers prisoners, which at once put an
end to that formidable rebellion, and lor which he received the thanks, in general orders, of the Governor and
Commander-in-Chief Sir Robert Brownrigg, as also of the Duke of York.
23 Major Beaufoy served with the 1st battalion 27th Regt. in Sicily in 1810; afterwards on the eastern coast of
Spain from 1812 to 1814, and was present at the battle of Castaiia^ (contused), taking of Alcoy, battle of Villa
Franca, and siege of Tarragona. Alter the conclusion of the Peninsular War he embarked with the Army for
North America, and was present at the battle of Plattsburg. In 1819 he embarked for the East Indies, and
served afterwards as an acting engineer at Sholupore. He served also in Canada during the rebellion.
24 Captain Graves served with the 18th in China (Medal) from Sept. 1840 to June 1847, and was present^at the
storming and capture of the heights above Canton, attack and capture of Amoy, second capture of Chusan, attack
and capture of tire hekhts of Chinghae, occupation of Ningpo, and repulse of the night attack, attack and capture
of the enemy’s entrenched camp on the heights of Segoarr, attack and capture of Clrapoo, Woosung, Shangai,
arrd Cbin Kiang Foo, and demonstration before Nankin. He was also present at the operations in tire Canton
river, under Major-Gen. D’Aguilar in April 1847, and was selected as the officer to remain in command at the
Factories when the force was withdrawn, for the purpose of organizing and drilling the Associated Gentlemen
Volunteers at Canton.
20 Major Sampson served the campaign in Tuscany, and was in the action before Genoa, and at the capture of
hat city in 1814. Served in the expedition to the Chesapeak, and was in the action at Bladensburg, and at the
capture of Wasliington, 24th Aug. 1814. Present in the action before Baitimore, Sept. 1814. Served in Florida,
and was in the action before New Orleans 8lh Jan. 1815 ; also at the capture of Fort Bowyer.
27 Captain Wily served the campaign on the Sutlej (Medal and three Clasps), including the battles of Moodkee
Ferozeshah, Aliwal, and Sobraon, in which last engagement, and during the hottest part of the contest, he suc¬
ceeded to the command of the 50th, and brought it out of the action: his gallantry in the hand-to-hand conflict
with the enemy attracted and called forth the marked and written approbation of Sir Harry Smith and Brigadier
Denny, and for which he was noted by Lord Gough “ as one worthy of reward for meritorious conduct in action
with the enemy.”
28 Captain M‘Nair served during the American war in the campaigns of 1813 and 14 on the borders of Lake
Onfaria, and on the Niagara frontier, including the investment of Fort George, action at Black Rock and capture
of the town of Buffalo; siege of Fort Erie, and the action at the sortie, 17th Sept. 1814, beside other affairs.
Prisoner of war about six months.
28* Captain Meredith served with the 13th Regt. in the last American war, and was present at the capture of
Plattsburg in 1813, and at the battle of La Cole Mill.
29 Captain Haultain was present with the 39th Regt. in the battle of Maharajpore 29th Dec. 1843 (Medal).
30 Lieut. Hickson served the campaign of 1814 in Canada, and that of 1815 in the Netherlands.
31 Major Richardson served as Adjt. of the Royals in the first Burmese War (Medal).
32 Lieut. Browne served in the 13th Regt. in the West Indies, and was present at the action of L’Ecole ; also
at the siege of Platsburg in North America
