3 Paymaster Comes served with
the 53rd in the campaign on the
Sutlej in 1846 (medal), and com.
manded the rear-guard at Buddiwal
when cutoff by the enemy’s cavairy,
and effected his retreat in an or¬
derly manner in the face of the
entire Seik cavalry,—liis conduct on
this occasion afterwards elicited the
Duke of Wellington’s “ cordial ap¬
probation and thanks for thegallantry
and judgment he displayed in pro¬
tecting the baggage and sick in the
inovenrent towards Loodiana, when
attacked by a large force of the
eneni} on the 21st January.” He
â– vas also present at the battles of
Aliwal and Sobraon. At Buddiwal
he was wounded in the leg, and his
horse was shot under him.
4 Lieut. Mure served with the 1st Battalion 60th
Rifles in the Punjaub campaign of 1848-49, and was
present during the second siege operations at Moo]tan,
including the storming of the town, and capture of the
citadel He was afterwards at the battle of Goojerat,
the pursuit of the Seik army under Rajah Shere Sing
until its final surrender at Rawul Pindee, the occupa¬
tion of Attock and Peshawur, and the expulsion of the
A Afghan force under the Ameer Dost Mahomed beyond
the Khyber Pass.

1 Lieut.-Gen. Sewell was appointed, Aide-de-Camp to General Beresford, and proceeded with the expedition that left
England in 1807. Joined the Duke of Wellington’s airoy in Portugal in 1809. Was present with Sir John Moore’s army
in its advance and in its retreat to Corunna. Was with the Duke's Head Quarters through the Peninsular war as Aide-
de-Camp to Lord Beresford, and was present at the battles of Corunna, Talavera (actions on the Coa and Agueda, with
the Light Division), Busaco, the sieges of Ciudad Rodrigo, Badajoz, and St. Sebastian, battles of the Nivelle, Nive, before
Bayonne (10th, 11th, and 13th Dec.'., Orthes, and Toulouse, besides Cavalry affairs and skirmishes. Had six horses killed
or wounded under him in general actions Has received the War Medal with ten Clasps. Served twenty years in India
until the Breach of 1846 ; and is now a Major-General on the Staff at Madras.
15 Paymaster Hodle served in the BOtli Kegt. throughout the Sutlej Campaign ot including
the battles of Moodkee, Ferozeshah, and Sobraon (Medal and two Clasps.) Also in the Burmese \*ar of
1852, including the Capture of Martaban, operations before Rangoon, on the 12th, 13th, and 14th ol April,
and Capture of the Great Dagon Pagoda (with the storming party), and Capture ot Prome.
16 Lieut. Fraser served with the 80th Regt. in the Burmese war of 1852, and was present at the capture
of Martaban, in the operations before Rangoon on the 12th, 13th, and 14th April, and storming of the
Great. Dagon Pagoda; also at the capture of Prome. on i t>
17 Captain Smith, Lieuts. Arniel, Nunn, (wounded) and Whitehead, served with the 80th Regt. in the
Burmese W^arof 1852 and were present at the Capture Of Martaban, operations before Rangoon on the 12th,
13th,and 14th April, and Capture of the Great Dagon Pagoda (with the storming purt> ), andCaptureof Protne.
18 Lieut. Paterson served with the 80th Regt. in the Burmese war of 1852, including the taking ot Prorne,
19 Lieut. St. George served with the 3rd Light Dragoons in the Punjaub campaign of 1848-9, and was
present at the atiair at Ramnuggur, the passage of the Chenab at Wuzeerabad on 1st Dec., *848, with the
force under Sir Joseph Thackwell, the action of Sadoolapore, and battle of Goojerat (Medal and one clasp).
20 Lieut. Borrowes served with the army in Burmah in 1853, as Adjutant of the 80th Kegt.
21 Assist.-Surgeon Irwin was in medical charge of the 27th Regiment from the 1st July 1846, and during
the Kaffir war of 1846-47-48; was senior and in Medical charge of the 1st Division in the field,in the opera¬
tions under Major General Hare,from July until November 1846.
