1 Sir William Napier served at the siege of Copenhagen and battle of Kiogc, in 1807; Sir John Moore’s campaign of
1808-9; the subsequent Peninsular campaigns from 1809 to the end of that war in 1814, and was present in many of the
soul-stirring scenes which he has described with so much ability in his admirable “History of the Peninsular War,” includ¬
ing the action of the Coa (wounded), battle of Busaco, actions of Poinbal, Kedinha, and Casal Nova—severely wounded at
the head of six companies supporting the 52nd : action of Foz d’Arouce, battle of Salamanca, passage of the Huebra, action
of Vera when Soult attempted to relieve San Sebastian, and again when the Allies passed the Jiidassoa ; battles of the
Nivelle and Nive—wounded in defending the churchyard of Arcangues ; battle of Orthes. Served also in the campaign of
1815. Sir William has received the gold Medal and two clasps for Salamanca, Nivellc, and Nive, at which battles he com¬
manded the 43rd Light Infantry, and also in many minor actions, and the silver War Medal with three clasps for
Busaco, Fuentes d’Onor, and Orthes.
4 Major Ramsay served in Cliina with the 49th (Medal), and was present at Amoy, Chusan, Chinhac, Ningpoo, Segoan,
Woosung, Chin Kiang Foo, and Nankin.
5 Capt. Harding served with the Lt. Company at defence of the Residency at Hyderabad, and was afterwards severely
wounded at the battle of Meeanee (Medal).
0 Capt. Thackwell served in Scinde, and was present at the battle of Hyderabad (Medal); also the campaign In the
Southern Mahratta country in 1844-5, including the investment and capture of Forts Panulla and Pownghur.
7 Capt. Bowden served throughout the operations in Scinde (Medal), including the battles of Meeanee and Hyderabad,
