1 Lord Combermere accompanied bis regt. (tbe 6th Dr. Gds.) to Flanders in Aug. 1703, and served to th#
end of that campaign, and until June of the following one. In 1706 he embarked in command of the 25th
Lt. Drs. for tiie Cape of Good Hope, and served a short but active campaign under Sir Thomas Craig, when
he accompanied his regt. to India, where he served in the memorable campaigns of 1708 and 60, against
Tippoo Sultaun, including the battle of Mallavelly, and siege of Seringapntstm. Proceeded to the Peninsula
in 1808, in command of a brigade of cavalry, consisting of the Mth and 16th Lt. Drs., at the head of which
he distinguished himself, during the campaign in the north of Portugal, including the operations at Oporto,
and afterwards apihe battle of Talavera. In Aug. 1809, the local rank of Lieut.. Gen. was conferred upon
him; and, early in 1810, he was appointed to the command of the whole allied cavalry under the Duke of
Wellington, and remained in that command until the termination of the war in 1814, and distinguished
himself at the head of the cavalry upon every occasion that presented itself, including the various actions
in covering the retreat from Almeida to Torres Vedras, battle of Busaeo, actions at Villa Garcia and
Castrajon, bat ■ ‘ of Puentes dOnor and Salamanca (severely wounded), action at 111 llodon, battles of
the Pyrenees, Oi .lies, and 1 onion e. Served also at the siege and capture of Bhurtpore, in 1825 and 26,
as Commander-in-chief. His lordship lias received a Medal for Seringapatain; the gold Cross and one
Clasp for the battles of Talavera, P'uentes d’Onor, Salamanca, Orthes, and Toulouse; and the silver War
Medal with three clasps for Busaco, Ciudad Bodrigo, and Pyrenees.
2 Mr. Percivall served in the Peninsula from September, 1813, to the end of the War in 1814, and was
present in the battle of Toulouse. Served also the campaign of 1815, including the capture of Paris. lie
has received the War Medal with two clasps for Orthes and Toulouse.
