General Galloway was actively
employed in Jamaica during the in¬
surrection of the Negroes in 1831-32
in command of a Detachment of the
33rd Regiment. Commanded the Pe-
shawur brigade during the Indian
mutiny in 1857-58 (Medal) as Briga-
of the 1st class, which appoint-
,t he retained until his embarka¬
tion with the last Division of the 70th
Regiment for New Zealand in March
1861. On promotion to Major General
he commanded the Colonial Forces in
the province of Auckland from July
1863 to February 1865, during the
operations in the North Island
(Medal).
4 Major Wright served with the 70th
Regiment in the New Zealand war in
863-65 (mentioned in despatches,

70th Regiment in the New Zealand

of the Fort of Arrah in January 1858, siege of Kotah and its capture by assault, affair at Sanganeer, and defeat of

3 Lt.Colonel Ralston served with the 70th Regiment in the New Zealand war of 1863-65, and was present at
Katikara and Rangiawhia, and commanded the Expedition landed at White Cliffs (Received the thanks of the Major
General Commanding, Medal).
6 Captains Collins and Greatwood served with the 70th Regiment in the New Zealand war of 1863-65 in the
provinces of Taranaki and Waikato (Medal).
7 Captain Hornby served with the 70th Regiment in the New Zealand war of 1864-65 (Medal).
