War Services of the Officers of the Royal Artillery.
20 Major-General Pym served in Flanders in 1795 and 96; expedition to the Texel, 1797 ;
expedition to Naples, 1805; battle of Maida, sieges of Scylla and Reggio in Calabria, and
siege of Gaita, 1806; commanded Artillery in the expedition to Egypt in 1807 ; capture of
Ischia and Procida, 1809; sieges and capture of Spezzia, Genoa, and Savona, 1814.
21 Major-General Brough was at the capture of St. Lucia in 1796, and that of Guadaloupe
in 1815.
22 Major-General Bredin was at the capture of Grenada, St. Vincent, and St. Lucia,
under Sir Ralph Abercrombie, and has also served in the Peninsula.
24 Major-General Crawford was at the capture of Surinam in 1799, and Swedish and Danish
islands in 1801, St. Lucia and Surinam in 1803. Served the whole of the Corunna campaign,
and subsequently in the American war, including the capture in the Ponobscot in 1814.
25 Major-General Smith’s services: — attack of Minorca in 1798 ; siege of Malta, 1800;
defence of Porto Ferrajo, 1802; expedition to Walcheren, and siege of Flushing; Peninsvdar
campaigns from January 1813, to May 1814, including the battle of Vittoria, passage of the
Bidassoa and Nive, and siege of St. Sebastian. Campaign of 1815, including the battle of
Waterloo. Medal and one clasp.
28 Col. Munro served the Egyptian campaign of 1801, including the action of 21st
March, and siege of Aboukir; expedition to Walcheren, and siege of Flushing; in action at
New Orleans, 23rd Dec. 1814,1st and 8th Jan. 1815. Medal for services in Egypt.
29 Col. Cockburn was at the capture of the Cape of Good Hope in 1795; expedition to
Manilla; capture of Copenhagen in 1807.
30 Sir Hew Ross served in the Peninsula and France from 9th June, 1809 to Feh. 1814,
including the action of the Coa, battle of Busaco, actions of Pomhal, Redinha (wounded in
the shoulder), Casal Nova, Foz d’Arouce (wounded in the leg), and Sabugal; battle of
Fuentes d’Onor, action of Aldea de Ponte, sieges of Ciudad Rodrigo and Badajoz, (dangerously
wounded in the head) ; action at Castraj on, capture of forts at and battle of Salamanca, cap¬
ture of Madrid and the Retiro, affairs of San Munoz and San Milan, battles of Vittoria, and
the Pyrenees from 26th to 30th July, passage of the Bidassoa, Nivelle, and Nive; battle
near Bayonne, 13 Dec. 1813. Served also the campaign of 1815, and was present at the
battle of Waterloo. Cross and two clasps.
31 Col. Birch served in Ireland during the Rebellion of 1798; expedition to Walcheren ;
in the Peninsula, at Cadiz, and Seville, under Lord Lynedoch and Sir George Cook in 1810,
11,12, and 13.
32 Col. Armstrong was at the capture of St. Lucia and Tobago in 1803; Surinam in
1804; and at St. Domingo in 1809.
33 Col. Paterson served at the siege of Copenhagen in 1807 ; and at Walcheren in 1809.
34 Col. Oliver served the Egyptian campaign of 1801, including the action on landing,
8th March, and battles of 13th and 21st March. Present at the siege of Flushing. Medal
for services in Egypt.
35 Col. Lacy served the campaign of 1799 in North Holland, and on the Eastern coast of
Spain from November 1812 to the end of the uar in 1814, including the battle of Castalla,
and the two sieges of Tarragona.
36 Col. Campbell served the Egyptian campaign of 1801, including the actions of the
8th, 13th, and 21st March, capture of Rosetta, several affairs on the march to, and capture
of Cairo, and afterwards at the capture of Alexandria. Medal for services in Egypt.
37 Col. Turner was at the capture of the Cape of Good Hope in 1806. Served also in
the Peninsula from Dec. 1813 to the end of the war, including the battles of Orthes and
Toulouse, and the affairs of Vic Bigorre and Tarbes. Medal and one clasp for Orthes and
Toulouse.
38 Colonel Cleaveland served the Kandian campaign in which the king and his territory
were captured.
39 Sir Robert Gardiner’s services: —capture of Minorca in 1798; campaign in Portugal
and Spain, including the battles of Roliea, Vimiera, and Corunna; expedition to Walcheren;
Peninsular campaigns from early in 1810 to the end of the war in 1814, including the
battle of Barrosa, capture of Badajoz, battle of Salamanca, siege of Burgos, affair of
Morales, battles of Vittoria, Orthes, and Toulouse; campaign of 1815, including the battle
of Waterloo. Cross and two clasps.
40 Colonel Wallace was on board the Phoenix Letter of Marque when she heat off a
French Privateer near Barbadoes in Dec. 1800. Present at the siege of Flushing in 1809 ;
arid he commanded the Artillery at the attack of Sackets Harbour, United States, in 1813.
41 Colonel Richard Jones served in Holland in 1799, including the battles of Zuyp,
Hoorn, Egmont, and Limmen. Present at the capture of Paris, and with the army of occu¬
pation until 2nd Dec. 1818.
