including the battle of Mallavelly, the attack of the Tope and Sultan pettah before Seringapatam, siege
of Seringapatam, and on the storming party at the assault—medal for this service. Served in the
Peninsula with the 5th; and was a major in the 2nd battalion when the French and Polish Lancers
attacked that regiment at El Bodon ; present at the siege of Ciudad Rodrigo, also at the scaling of the
fansse braye on the night of the storm, and at the storming of the great breach, which was carried by
the 2nd battalion of the 5lh regiment—twice wounded during the siege: present also at the action of
Fuente Guinaldo.
112 Sir Alexander Cameron served the campaign of 1799, in Holland ; with the expedition to the
Ferrol, in 1800 ; the Egyptian campaign of 1801—severely wounded in the arm and side at the battle
of Alexandria. Expedition to Germany under Lord Cathcart, in 1805; and to Copenhagen, in 1807,
including the battle of Kioge. Landed in Portugal, in 1808, with the 95th (Rifle Brigade), and was
present at the battle of Vimiera, with the rear guard during the retreat, aflair of Calcavellas, and battle
of Corunna. Proceeded again to the Peninsula in May 1809, and was present at the battle of Bu-
saco, retreat to the lines of Torres Vedras, occupation of them, subsequent advance, action of the Coa,
blockade of Almeida, battle of Fuentes d’Onor, sieges and assaults of Ciudad Rodrigo and Badajoz,
battle of Salamanca, capture of Madrid, retreat to Portugal, and battle of Vittoria, besides a great
many minor actions and other desultory services, until obliged to return to England, owing to a severe
wound received at Vittoria. Served also the campaigns of 1814 and 15 in Holland, Flanders, and
France, including the action at Merxem, operations before Antwerp, battle of Quatre Bras, retreat on
the following day, and battle of Waterloo, at which last he was severely wounded in the throat. Sir
Alexander has received a medal for services in Egypt; and a medal and two clasps for Ciudad
Rodrigo, Badajoz, and Salamanca. During nearly the whole of the above services he held a
command.
113 Sir James Wilson served the campaign of 1799 in North Holland with the 27th, including the
action at the landing, and those of 10th and 13th of September, 2nd and 6th of October. Accom¬
panied the expedition to the Ferrol, in 1800 ; and that to Egypt, in 1801, and was present at the
actions of the 8th, 13th, and 2lst of March, and all the operations of that campaign. Served with the
army in Spain, under Sir John Moore, during its operations in Leon. Accompanied the 48th to the
Peninsula, in 1809, and was present at the battles of Talavera and Busaco, lines of Torres Vedras, and
subsequent advance ; again commanded the regiment at the battle of Albuhera, after the death of
Lieut.-Col. Duckworth, and received two severe wounds through the leg ; at the siege of Ciudad
Rodrigo he again commanded it, and was present at the assault; engaged in the siege of Badajoz, and
commanded the column that attacked the Ravelin of San Roque at the assault (wounded). Com¬
manded the battalion in the advance to the Douro, retreat to Castrajon, and in the battleof Salamanca,
where he succeeded to the command of the Fusilier Brigade. Commanded a light battalion at the
battle of Vittoria, and during the operations in the Pyrenees, until he received two severe wounds from
musket-balls through the shoulder on the 28th of July, near Pampeluna. Commanded the 48th in
the advance to the Garonne, in 1814, and was present at the battle of Toulouse, where he was again
wounded. Sir James has received a cross and one clasp.
114 Major-General Dalmer’s services:—Expedition to Ostend, in 1798; to Holland, in 1799,
including the action near the Helder, 27th Aug., and the subsequent actions of the 2nd and 6th of Oct.
Expedition to Ferrol, Vigo Bay, and Cadiz, in 1800. Egyptian campaign of 1801, including the
actions of the 8th, 12th, 13th, and 21st of March. Expedition to Hanover in 1805;. and that to
Copenhagen, in 1807, including the operations which led to the capitulation of Copenhagen, and the
capture of the Danish fleet. Expedition to Corunna in 1808, including the operations in the North of
Spain : subsequently re-embarked at Corunna. Peninsular campaigns of 1811, 12, and 13, in¬
cluding the actions of El Bodon and Eldea de Ponte, battles of Salamanca (severely wounded) and
Vittoria. Campaign of 1815, including the battle of Waterloo, (where his horse was killed under
him), assault and capture of Cambray, and capture of Paris. Medal for services in Egypt; and a
medal and a clasp for the battles of Salamanca and Vittoria.
115 Sir Henry Watson served in the Peninsula, and was present at the passage of the Douro and
battle of Oporto, capture of Campo Mayor, siege of Olivenpa, actions of Los Santos and Usagre, battle
of Albuhera—in command of the 7th Portuguese cavalry ; battle of Fuentes d'Onor, battle of Sala¬
manca,—in command of the 1st Portuguese cavalry, at the head of which regt. he was severely wounded
in a charge on the leading regiment of Thomieres’ division formed in square, which they succeeded in
routing and dispersing. Previous to this battle he had been employed in rear of the French army,
while they occupied the banks of the Douro, to harass their foraging parties. At the battle of Toulouse
he commanded all the Portuguese cavalry excepting the 4th regiment. In 1809 he was appointed to
instruct and form the Portuguese cavalry. He has received a medal for Salamanca.
116 Major-Genetal Thomas Evans’s services:—Entered the army in 1793 as a volunteer, and
enlisted 150 men for the service. Operations in the West Indies and Ireland, in 1794 and 95 ; capture
of Demerara and Berbice, in 1796. Captured returning from South America, and kept a close pri¬
soner in France, in 1797. Operations at Minorca and Guernsey, in 1798 and 99; ditto on the coast
of Spain, Malta and Marmorice, in 1800. Egyptian campaign of 1801 (medal), including the
actions of the 8th, 13th, and 21st of March ; battle of Rahmanie on the Nile, and reduction of that
fortress, sieges and surrender of Cairo and Alexandria (as Lieut, and Adjutant of the 8th). Opera¬
tions at Gibraltar, in 1802 and 3 ; ditto in the West Indies (as Captain in the 8th and Aide-de-camp
to Sir Gordon Drummond), in 1804, 5, ajid 6. Operations in Nova Scotia, in 1807 and 8; ditto in
