Tarifa, he was second In command. Marched from thence with the detachment of the Guards that
joined Lord Hill, and subsequently formed a junction with the Duke of Wellington on his retreat from
Burgos. In 1813 he returned to England, and shortly afterwards he again embarked with a detach¬
ment of Guards for Flanders, a brigade of which he commanded in the attack on Bergen-op-Zoom.
Medal for services in Egypt.
34 Lieut.-General the Honourable T. E. Capel served the campaigns in Flanders under the Duke
of York. Employed as Assistant-Adjutant-General at Cadiz in 1811.
35 Lieut.-General Mundy served in Ireland during the Rebellion, in 1798. Went in command
of the 3rd Dragoons to Walcheren, in 1809; and in command of the same regiment to the Penin¬
sula, in 1811.
36 Sir Henry Edw. Bunbury served in Holland in 1799, including the battles of the 19th Sept., 2d
and 6th October. Served also on the expedition to Naples and Calabria in 1805 and 6, and was
present at the battle of Maida, for which he has received a medal.
37 Lieut.-General Mawby embarked with the 18th for Toulon, in October 1793; and, after serving
with it there, he was appointed Assistant-engineer, and sent to the out-post of Cape Brim, where he
remained until that place was evacuated, 17th December following. Embarked for Corsica 12th May
1794 ; proceeded with the Grenadiers from Bastia for Calvi, in June, and was present during the
whole of the siege of that place, as also at the storming of the Mozelle fort. Embarked for India 20th
April 1805, in command of the 53rd. In November 1809, he accompanied the regiment into the pro¬
vince of Bundelcund, and was appointed to command the first brigade of Infantry, and which command
he held until the army was ordered into cantonments, 29th March 1812. At the storming of Callinger,
2nd February, 1812, he commanded the British troops.
38 Lieut.-General the Honourable John Meade served in Holland under the Duke of York. Ac¬
companied the expeditions to the Ferrol and to Portugal, in 1800. Served also in the Peninsula, and
commanded the 45th at the battle of Busaco, for which he has received a medal.
39 Sir Robert Barton served the campaign of 1799 in Holland, and was present in the actions of
the 8th, 10th, and 19th September. Accompanied the Life Guards to the Peninsula, where he served
for a short period.
40 Sir Wm. Paterson served at the taking of the French West India Islands, in 1794. Served also
in the American war, and was present at several operations in the Chesapeak, and with the expedition
against New Orleans, where he was severely wounded.
41 Sir John Guise served with the 3rd Guards at Ferrol, Vigo, and Cadiz, in 1800 ; the Egyptian
campaign of 1801 (medal), including the actions of the 8th and 21st March, and 17th Aug., attack
of the fortress of Marabout on the following day, action of the 22nd Aug., investment and capture of
Alexandria. Expedition to Hanoverin 1805-6. Proceeded to the Peninsula in 1809, and commanded
the light battalion of the Guards with a Rifle company of the 60th attached, on the retreat to the lines
in 1810, battle of Busaco, and subsequent retreat, lines of Torres Vedras, several actions on the ad¬
vance from thence in 1811, and battle of Fuentes d’Onor. Present also at the sieges and captures of
Ciudad Rodrigo and Badajoz. Commanded the 1st battalion of the 3rd Guards at the battle of Sala¬
manca, capture of Madrid, siege of Burgos and retreat from thence, advance in 1813, battle of
Vittoria, siege and capture of San Sebastian, passage of the Bidassoa, battles of the Nive, passage of
the Adour, investment of Bayonne and repulse of the sortie—during the latter part of the action he
commanded the 2nd brigade of Guards in consequence of Sir E. Stopford being wounded. Sir John
has received a cross.
42 Sir James Bathurst served at the capture of Surinam, under Sir Thomas Trigge ; the Egyptian
campaign of 1801 (medal), including the action at the landing, also the various actions during the
campaign to the east and west of Alexandria, and at the siege of Marabout. Expedition to Hanover in
1805 ; in Poland with the Russian and Prussian armies, and was present in most of the principal
actions. Served also at the sieges of Stralsund and Copenhagen, in 1807. Proceeded to the Penin¬
sula in 1808, and was present at the battles of Roleia, Corunna, Talavera, and Busaco, for which he
has received a cross.
43 Lieut.-General Pigot was actively employed in the West Indies, in 1794 ; in the Mediterranean
and capture of Minorca, in 1798; at the capture of the Cape of Good Hope, in 1806; and in the East
Indies, in 1818.
44 Lieut.-General the Honourable H. O. Trevor served in Flanders in 1793, 94, and 95, and at
Copenhagen, in 1807. Embarked 31st December 1808, with the fiist battalion of the Coldstream
Guards for the Peninsula, where he served until May 1811, and again, from May to November 1812;
commanded the regiment at the battle of Salamanca, for which he has received a medal.
45 Lieut.-General the Honourable A. P. Upton joined the Duke of York’s army in Holland, in
November 1794, with which he served the ensuing winter campaign, and returned to England with the
army in May 1795. In 1799 he was appointed Aide-de-camp to Sir Ralph Abercromby, and was
present at the battle of the 27th August on the landing near the Holder, as also at those of the 10th
September, 2nd and 6th October. Appointed Assistant Quarter-Master-General to the army under
Lord Chatham, in 1809; landed at Walcheren 27th July with the troops, and was present at the
actions in which the enemy were driven into Flushing, and also at the siege of that place. Served
at Cadiz from April 1811 to August 1812, and with the Duke of Wellington’s army on the Quarter-
Master-General’s staff, from September 1812 to the end of the war in 1814, including the retreat into
Portugal, actions of San Munos and Osma, battle of Vittoria, action at Tolosa, passage of the
