218 Lt.Colonel E. Y. Peel served in the Eastern campaign of 1854-55, including the affair of Bulganac, battles of
Alma and Tehemaya, and siege of Sebastopol (Medal with two Clasps, Brevet of Lt.Colonel, 5th Class of the
! Medjidie, and Turkish Medal).
,18t Lt.Colonel C. R. Platt commanded a Wing of the 6th Regt. during the operations in Sikkim in 1861, and was
frequently mentioned in despatches.
*1® Lt.Colonel Portal served the Eastern campaign of 1854-55 with the 4th Hussars, and was present at the battles
of Alma, Balaklava (horse shot under him in the Light Cavalry Charge), Inkerman, and Tchernaya, and siege of
Sebastopol; and was Aide de Camp to Lord George Paget during the period he commanded the Light Cavalry
! Brigade in the Crimea, including the expedition to Eupatoria (Brevet of Major, Medal with four Clasps, Sardinian
Medal, Turkish Medal, and 5th Class of the Medjidie).
*19t Lt.Colonel G. H. Pocklington served with the 18th Royal Irish in the Burmese campaign of 1852-53 (Medal
with Clasp for Pegu). Served also in the Crimea from ist June 1855, including the siege and fall of Sebastopol, and
attack of the 18th June (Medal with Clasp, and Turkish Medal).
220 Lt.Colonel Pretyman served in the Eastern campaign of 1854-55 with the 33rd Regiment, up to 20th Feb. 1855,
when he was appointed Brigade Major to ist Brigade, Light Division; was present at the battles of Alma and Inker-
* man, siege of Sebastopol, and assaults of the 18th June and 8th Sept. (Medal with three Clasps, Brevet of Major,
Knight of the Legion of Honor, 5th Class of the Medjidie, and Turkish Medal).
221 Lt.Colonel Prevost served in the 31st Regt. in the Crimea from 22nd May 1855 (as Acting Adjutant from 15th
June to 14th Aug.) including the siege and fall of Sebastopol and attack of the 8th Sept.; he was slightly wounded
on the 17th July in the Trenches (Medal with Clasp, and Turkish Medal).
222 Lt.Colonel J. Puget served with the 8th Hussars in the Crimea from the 29th April to Nov. 1855, including the
expedition to Kertch, siege and fall of Sebastopol (Medal with Clasp, and Turkish Medal). Served in Rajpootana
in 1858-59 and was present at the capture of Kotah and action of Koorshana (mentioned in despatches. Medal with
Clasp).
223 Lt.Colonel Radcliffe served with the 88th Regiment in the Eastern campaign of 1854, including the battle of
Alma and siege of Sebastopol (Medal with two Clasps, and Turkish Medal). Served also in suppression of the
Indian mutiny in 1857-58, including the affair at Bhognapore, siege of Lucknow in March, siege of Calpee, and
affair at Selimpore (Brevet of Major, Medal with Clasp).
234 Lt.Colonel Rawstome served in the Peninsula, in the Chasseurs Britanniques, from August 1813 to the end of
the war, and was present at the battle of Orthes (War Medal with two Clasps). Present with the 91st Regt. in the
Kaffir war of 1846-47 (Medal), and covered with his Company the movement of a Division of the force from Dobia
Flats to the vicinity of Block Drift in April 1846 (wounded). On the renewal of operations in July 1846 he was
entrusted for several months with the charge and defence of the Seminary at Block Drift, an isolated post, containing
the magazines of the Army, and maintaining the communications between the Colony and the Divisions in the field.
He commanded the Detachment of the 91st Regt. on the expedition under Sir Harry Smith against the insurgent
Boers in 1848, and had charge of the position at Botha’s Drift, Orange River, to keep open the communication with
the advanced Column. For the manner in which he marched these Troops to the camp of Sir Harry Smith, a dis¬
tance of 250 miles, Sir Harry conferred on him the appointment of Brigade Major at Graham’s Town.
225 Lt.Colonel Ready landed in the Crimea on 13th Feb. 1855, and commanded the 71st Highlanders at the siege of
Sebastopol and expedition to Kertch: he held the rank of Brigadier in the Kertch district during its occupation by
the Allies (Medal with Clasp, Knight of the Legion of Honor, and Turkish Medal).
226 Lt.Colonel Reed served in the American war, including the action at Baltimore, Bladensburg, and capture of
Washington.
227 Lt.Colonel Reeve served the Eastern campaign of 1854 with the Grenadier Guards, including the battles of
Alma, Balaklava, and Inkerman, and siege of Sebastopol (Medal with four Clasps, and Turkish Medal).
227+ Lt.Colonel C. D.Rich served with the 9th Lancers at the relief of Lucknow byLordClyde inNov. 1857, an(l with the
2nd Battalion Military Train as Field Adjutant, while that Corps acted as Cavalry in the Force that remained in posi¬
tion in Alumbagh from the relief until the siege and capture of the City in March 1858, and was mentioned in despatch
for services in action at Alumbagh (horse shot); served with the 9th Lancers throughout the campaign in Oude and
Rohilcund, including actions at Rhodamow and Allygunge, capture of Bareilly, action of Shahjehanpore and pur¬
suit to Mahomdee; commanded a squadron at the passage of the Gogra and affairs at Mutchleegaon and Kurndakoti
(Brevet of Major, Medal with two Clasps).
228 Lt.Colonel J.Robinson served with the 44th Regiment throughout the Eastern campaign of 1854-55, including the
battles of Alma and Inkerman, siege and fall of Sebastopol, attack and occupation of the Cemetery on the 18th June,
and was Aide de Camp to Brigadier General Spencer in the Trenches at the fall of Sebastopol, 8th September, and
in the expedition to and capture of the forts of Kinbourn (mentioned in despatches, Medal with three Clasps, Brevet
of Major, Knight of the Legion of Honor, 5th Class of the Medjidie, and Turkish Medal). Served also the campaign
of i860 in the north of China, including the action of Sinho, assault and capture of the Inner Taku Fort (Medal
with Clasp).
228t Lt.Colonel R. J. E. Robertson served with the ist Battalion 60th Rifles during the second siege operations at
Mooltan, including the siege and storm of the town and capture of the citadel; was afterwards present at the
battle of Goojerat, the pursuit of the Sikh army, and the expulsion of the Affghans beyond the Khyber Pass (Medal
with two Clasps). Served during the operations in the Euzofzye Country, and capture of the insurgent villages on
the nth and 14th Dec. 1849. Also in the expedition against the Affreedies in the Kohat Pass in February 1850
(Medal with Clasp). Served on the Red River expedition of 1870.
229 Lt.Colonel Rocke served with the 72nd Highlanders in the Crimea from 13th June 1855, including the expedi¬
tion to Kertch, siege and fall of Sebastopol, and attack of the 18th June (Brevet of Major, Medal with Clasp, Turkish
Medal, and 5th Class of the Medjidie). Served at the siege and capture of Kotah, and was present with the leading
Column of assault on 30th March 1858; commanded a Wing of the Regiment in pursuit of Gwalior rebels in
Rajpootana and at the battle of Bunass; commanded Field Force at the action of Pertabghur (mentioned in despatches.
Medal with Clasp).
230 Lt.Colonel Romer was employed as Aide de Camp to the French Admiral during the operations before and
capture of Canton in 1857 (mentioned in despatches, Brevet of Major, Medal with Clasp). Commanded the Detach¬
ment of the 59th Regt. at the storming and capture of Namtow on nth Aug. 1858.
232 Lt.Colonel Holden-Rose served with the 3rd Light Dragoons throughout the campaign of 1842 in A Afghanistan,
including the forcing of the Khyber Pass,storming the Heights of Jugdulluck, action at Tezeen, and Huftkotul, relief
of Jellalabad, and recapture of Cabool (Medal). At the battle of Punniar, near Gwalior, commanded the left Squad¬
ron of the 9th Lancers (Bronze Star). He served in the Sutlej campaign in 1846, including the battle of Sobraon
(Medal). Also in the Punjaub campaign of 1848-49, including the passage of the Chenab at Ramnuggur (where he
commanded the 9th Lancers), and battles of Chillianwallah and Goojerat (Medal with two Clasps).
233 Lt.Colonel W. J. Rous served with the 90th Light Infantry in the Crimea from Dec. 1854, including the siege
and fall of Sebastopol, and attacks of the Redan on the 18th June and 8th September—wounded; also severely
wounded in the Trenches on the 26th August (Medal with one Clasp, and Turkish Medal).
234 Lt.Colonel A. H. Russell served with the 22nd Regt. in Scinde during its conquest. Served with the 58th in
the south of New Zealand from 9th April 1845.
235 Sir Charles Russell served the Eastern campaign of 1854-55 (latterly as D.A.Q.M. General ist Division, including
the battles of Alma, Balaklava, and Inkerman, siege and fall of Sebastopol (Medal with four Clasps, Brevet of Major,
Victoria Cross, Knight of the Legion of Honor, 5th Class of the Medjidie, and Turkish Medal).
236 Lt.Colonel Ruttledge served with the 17th Regt. throughout the campaign of 1838-39 in Affghanistan and Beloo-
chistan under Lord Keane, and was present at the storm and capture of Ghuznee (Medal), and of Khelat. Also at
the siege of Sebastopol from Dec. 1854 to Aug. 1855, including the assault of the Redan on the 18th June (Medal with
Clasp, 5th Class of the Medjidie, and Turkish Medal).
237 Lt.Colonel Rynd served with the 62nd Regt. in the Crimea from the 19th May 1855, including the siege and
fall of Sebastopol (Medal with Clasp, 5th Class of the Medjidie, and Turkish Medal).
238 Lt.Colonel H. M. Sail served with the 10th Foot in the Punjaub campaign of 1848-49, including the whole of the siege
operations before Mooltan, repulse of the enemy and night attack upon the British Camp at Muttee Thol 17th Aug.
1848 ; action of Soorjkoond and capture of the enemy’s guns 7th Nov.; carrying the heights and suburbs before
Mooltan 27th Dec.; and surrender of the fortress 22nd Jan. 1849; after which joined with the Mooltan Force the Army
