Batghur, action at Barodea, relief of Saugor, capture of Garrakota, forcing of the Muddenpore Pass, siege and
storm of Jhansi, and battle of the Betwa (Medal with Clasp).
88 Lt.Colonel J. T. Hill commanded the flank companies of the 14th Bombay N.I. during the operations in Oka-
mundel and KaUywar in 1859-60, including the siege of Dwarka, and storming of the heights and fort of Ubhpoora,
as Staff Officer Kattywar Field Force under Major Homier on i3th December 1859.
89 Lt.Colonel Baumgartner served as Assistant Adjutant General of the Rajpootana Field Force, and was present
at the attack on the Fort of Arrah in September 1857, and at the siege of Kotah and its capture by assault on the 30th
March 1858 (Medal).
90 Lt.Colonel A. W. Graham served with the Bombay Column in the Punjaub campaign of 1848-49, including the
siege and surrender of Mooltan, and storm and capture of the town (Medal with Clasp). Served with the Persian
Expedition of 1856-57, and was present at the landing at Hallilah Bay, storming of Reshire, surrender of Bushire, and
battle of Khooshab (Medal with Clasp). Was present at the attack on the position of the rebel Bheels at Shum-
sherpoor in October 1857 with the force under Colonel Macan (severely wounded by ball through the ankle).
91 Colonel H. Beville commanded the Left Wing 1st Belooch Battalion throughout the Rohilcund campaign in
1858 ; present with General Penny’s Column at the action of Kurkralee, and with the force under the Commander in
Chief at the action before Bareilly, .and capture of the town, actions of Bunnce andMahomdee, attack by the rebels on
Shahjehanpore, and several minor affairs (Medal). Commanded the 27th Bombay Native Infantry (Belooches)
throughout the Abyssinian campaign, and was present at the action of Arogee and assault of Magdala (mentioned
in despatches, Brevet of Lt.Colonel, CB., and Medal).
92 Lt.Colonel W. Waddington served with Persian Expeditionary Force in 1856-57, and was present at the
landing at Hallilah Bay, storming and capture of Reshire, surrender of Bushire, and during the forced march on
Borazjoon, the occupation of the enemy’s entrenched camp, and the night attack and battle of Khooshab (Medal
with Clasp).
93 Lt.Colonel J. H. S. Pierce served with Colonel Scudamore’s Flying Column in 1859, also with Captain Meade’s
Field Detachment in the same year, and was present at the capture of Tantia Topee.
94 Colonel W. Gray served with the Bombay Column in the Punjaub campaign of 184S-49, including the siege
and surrender of Mooltan, and was severely wounded at the storming of the city—right arm amputated (Medal
with Clasp). Served as Deputy Assistant Commissary General to the Persian Field Force throughout the campaign
in 1856-57 (Medal with Clasp, and Brevet of Major).
95 Lt.Colonel J. Fairbrother served with the Bombay Column in the Punjaub campaign of 1848-49, including the
siege and surrender of Mooltan, battle of Goojerat, pursuit and surrender of the Sikh army (Medal with two
Clasps). Commanded a field detachment of his regiment in a severe skirmish with insurgent Bheels in Khandeish
on 19th January 1858; served with his regiment whilst employed against the Gwalior mutineers under Tantia
Topee, the Rao Saheb, and the Nawab of Banda in the Rajpootana States during the monsoon and following
actions of months of 1858 in the pursuit through Malwa, Bundlecund, and Central India, including the actions of
Rajghur, Mungrowlee, Sindwaho, and Kurai (Medal with Clasp).
96 Colonel T. Nuttall served with the Persian Expeditionary Force in 1857, an(l was present at the bombard¬
ment and capture of the forts of Mohumra, and pursuit of the Persian army (Mpdal with Clasp). Was in command
of detachments of Police in the Deccan and Concan against rebel Bheels, Peinf; rebels, &c., in 1857, 1858, and 1859,
including the relief of Peint and skirmish there; engagements at Wassiembiera (had two horses wounded under
him), Tursia Doonjur; skirmish and pursuit of the Bheels over the Chupurgaon hills, and engagement of Ambora
Durria (horse twice wounded; received on five occasions the commendation of Government). Served in the
Abyssinian campaign as 2nd in Command of the Land Transport Corps (mentioned in despatches, Brevet of
Lt.Colonel, and Medal).
97 Lt.Colonel J. F. Robertson served with the Persian Expedition in 1857, including the bombardment and capture
of Mohumra and subsequent pursuit of the Persian army (Medal with Clasp). Was present during the operations
against the insurgent Dessaies in the North Canara and Bedee districts from 15th February to 23rd May 1858;
proceeded with the detachment sent from Dharwar to reinforce the column under Colonel Malcolm before Nurgoond.
98 Lt.Colonel F. Roome served in Turkey during the war in the Crimea in 1855-56, with the Osmanli Irregular
Cavalry (Bashi-Bazouks) as Captain in Turkey. Served in the Indian mutiny campaign, and was present at the
storm and capture of the fortified village of Rowah, the siege and capture of the rebel fort of Awah, siege storm
and capture of Kotah in 1858; present during the operations of the brigade under Brigadier Smith in Central
India, at the battle of Kotah-ke-Serai, and at"the storming of the various heights and positions occupied by the
enemy; commanded his regiment in the general action of 19th June 1858, and attack and capture of the Lushkur
and city of Gwalior; the siege and capture of Powree, subsequent pursuit of the rebels, action of Beejapoor, battle
of Koondrye, with Brigadier Smith’s Brigade, which surprised and defeated a large force of rebels under command
of Maun Sing; commanded the Bassoda Field Force at the successful actions of Richia, Goonapoora, Goripoorie,
and other minor skirmishes (ninetimes mentioned in despatches, Medal with Clasp, and Brevet of Major). Served
throughout the Abyssinian campaign in the Political and Intelligence Department (mentioned in despatches, Medal).
99 Lt.Colonel E. L. Taverner was present with the Persian Expeditionary Force in 1856-57, and at the landing
at Hallilah Bay, storming and capture of Reshire, surrender of Bushire, during the forced march on Borazjoon,
occupation of the enemy’s entrenched camp, and night attack and battle of Khooshab (Medal with Clasp).
.100 Lt.Colonel W. Bannerman served with the Bombay Column in the Punjaub campaign of 1848-49, including
the siege and surrender of Mooltan, battle of Goojerat, pursuit and surrender of the Sikh army (Medal with two
Clasps). Served with the field force which penetrated into the Eusofzaie country north of Peshawur in December
1849 for the purpose of chastising the Hill Tribe on the Swat border; present at the capture r-and destruction of the
villages of Sugoa, Pulai, Shurkannes, and Tjoomumda, in the Bagdurrah Valley (Medal with Clasp). Served with
the Persian Expeditionary Force in 1857 as Adjutant of the Light Battalion, present at the bombardment and
capture of the forts of Mohumra and pursuit of the Persian army (Clasp). Served as 2nd in Command of the
Detachment Southern Mahratta Horse in the pursuit through Central India, Meywar. Marvvar, and Rajpootana of
the rebels under Tantia Topee, Rao Saheb, the Nawab of Banda, and Feroze Shah, and was present at the action at
Chota Oodeypoor (mentioned in despatches as having distinguished himself, horse severely wounded by sabre
cuts, Medal with Clasp). Served with the Horse Transport Service in the China Expeditionary Force in i860
under Sir Hope Grant, and was present at the landing at Pehtang, action of Sinho, capture of Tangkow, assault
and capture of the Taku Forts, and accompanied the advance of the army on Tien-Tsin and Pekin, including the
battles of Chang-kia-Wan and Tungchow, and occupation of Pekin (Medal with two Clasps).
101 Lt.Colonel S. J. Thorp served in the Indian mutiny campaign, and was present at the -siege and capture of
Ratghur, action at Barodea, relief of Saugor, capture of Garrakota, forcing of the Muddenpore Pass, siege and
storm of Jhansi, and battle of the Betwa (Medal with Clasp).
102 Lt.Colonel F. P. Mignon served on the Staff with the Persian Expeditionary Force as Deputy Assistant Com¬
missary General to the 1 stand 2nd Divisions (Medal with Clasp). Accompanied the reconnoitring force to Abyssinia
in Sept. 1867, and was a member of the committee; was head of the Commissariat Department for the first three
months, and subsequently Lord Napier’s Senior Commissariat Officer with the forces in the field during the whole
period of active operations from Senafe to Magdala and back; present at the assault arid capture of Magdala (twice
thanked in General Orders, and several times speciallymentioned in desp.itches, Medal, and Brevet of Lt.Colonel).
103 Lt.Colonel E. M. Gilbert Cooper served in the Indian mutiny campaign, and was present at the assault and
capture of Kotah, pursuit of the rebels under Tantia Topee, the Rao Saheb, and the Nawab of Banda in June
July and August 1858; at the action at Sanganeer and battle of theBunass; with Brigadier Parke’s pursuing
Column from August to November 1858 (Medal with Clasp).
104 Lt.Colonel G. A. Laughton served with the Persian Expeditionary Force in 1856, and was present at the assault
and capture of Reshire, surrender of Bushire, expedition to Borazjoon, and attack of Khooshab (Medal with Clasp).
106 Lt.Colonel S. Scott served with the Persian Expeditionary^ Force in 1856-57, and was present at the assault
and capture of Reshire, surrender of Bushire, with the expedition to Borazjoon, and at the action at Khooshab
(Medal with Clasp). Served with the field force in the latter part of 1857 under Brigadier General LeGrand
Jacob at the recapture of Kolapoor; with the field force in the operations in the Akranee Country, and with the
Satpoora Field Force under Major Evans; commanded a detachment of the Khandeish Bheel Corps in the action
. of Ambapawnee on the nth of April 1858 (received the high approbation of Government).
