234 Major J. D. W. Sewell served with the expedition to China in 1857.
235 Major E. R. C. Bradford served with the 14th Light Dragoons in the Persian campaign from 21st of Febrnaj
till 8th June 1857; served in the Jubbulpore district during 1857, anfl afterwards in the North-Western Province
in 1858—with "General Michel’s Force in Mayne’s Horse against Tantia Topee in 1858; present at the genen
action of Scindwha and the action and pursuit at Karai. Served with General Napier’s Columns in Mayne’s Hors
from December 1858 to September 1859, and was present in several actions with the enemy (twice thanked i
despatches, Medal).
236 Major T. Weldon was employed on field service in the Raichore Doab from 4th June to 5th August 1858.
237 Major T. Obbard served during the campaign in Bengal, and was present at the engagement of Seerowlie,
the action of Ghurra, the reoccupation of Hummeerpore, and at the engagement and destruction of Lallpore (Medal

243 Major J. H. E. Johnson served with the 26th Madras Native Infantry at Moulmein during the Burmese war
from April to June 1852 (Medal with Clasp for Pegu).
245 Major C. H. Plowden served with Major General Whitlock’s Force during the suppression of the mutiny ix
Bengal in 1858-59, wa s present at the surrender of the rebel Narrain Rao of Kirwee 6th June 1858, and in action a
Girwassah on the banks of the Scinde river 16th December 1858 (Medal).
246 Major E. S. Berkeley was present with the Cavalry portion of the force under Lt.Colonel Brice at the attach
on the Residency of Hyderabad on 17th July 1857.
247 Major G. Murray served with the Military Train throughout the expedition in North China from 25th Apri
to 14th December i860, and was present at the attack on the entrenched camp in rear of the Taku forts, and a
the surrender of Pekin (Medal with two Clasps).
249 Major W. Stoddard was employed on field service in the Saugor and Nerbudda Territories in the suppressior
of the Indian mutiny from 9th February 1858.
250 Major W. S. Bailey served in the suppression of the mutiny in Bengal in 1857; commanded a detachmenli
against the rebels at Allahabad (wounded on board the Berhampooter steamer) under Major Spurgin, which
covered the flank of Havelock’s Column from Allahabad to Cawnpore; present with Havelock’s Force at the actions!
of Aoung, Busseerutgunge (ist and 2nd), Boorjeakee Chowkee, and Bithoor; crossed into Oude on 19th September^
and present at the actions of Mungawar and Alumbagh, and the entry into Lucknow on the 25th September^-
severely wounded at the storming of the Char Bagh bridge on that day; besieged in the Residency till 22nd Novem
ber 1857 (Medal with Clasp, and a year’s service).
251 Captain Gabbett served with Brigadier Smith’s pursuing Column from December 1858 to April 1859, and was
present at the defeat of the rebels at Baroda (Medal).
252 Major B. W. Broughton commanded a company during the North Canara campaign from August to Novem¬
ber, and a detachment of two companies till the end of December 1858, and commanded a party in pursuit of rebels
for three days.
253 Major J. Picton-Warlow commanded a detachment during the disturbances in Pariah Kimedy in 1856. Was!
actively employed against the insurgents in the Sumbulpore district in 1858, and received the thanks of the Bengali
Government for his services.
254 Major G. Tyndall served with the Madras Rifles 1857-58 in quelling the mutiny in India, and with the force
under Major General Whitlock in 1859 (Medal).
255 Major E. Faunce was employed in the suppression of the mutiny in India in 1857-58, and accompanied the
detachment from the Dorundah Field Force under the command of Major G. G. Macdonnell to act against the insur¬
gents of Palimow; was present with the force for restoring and maintaining peace in the Chota Nagpore district |in
1857-58 (Medal).
256 Captain T. K. Guthrie served in the N. W. Provinces of Bengal and Central India from October 1857 to Janu¬
ary i860, with the Madras Rifles ; present at the taking of Kotte and Shergundy, and affair in the bed of the
Jumna near the latter town; at the surprise and action of Gurrah, the reoccupation of Hummerpoor and subse¬
quent pursuit of rebels across the Doab; present at an attack on rebels at Entowa, in April 1859, when they were
defeated and lost their camp and baggage; employed in several minor expeditions, and in guarding the Kallinger
and Doorwa passes in Bundlecund (Medal with Clasp).
257 Captain C. M'Inroy served in the Indian mutiny campaign, and was present with General Whitlock’s Force at
the surrender of Kirwee. Joined the Sikh Mounted Police in Aug. 1858, and was present in the action at Sahao
(mentioned in despatches). Commanded in Cavalry actions of Maharajpore, Jaccoli, and Mow Mahori. Com¬
manded escort to the guns during the action at Girwassah (mentioned several times in despatches, Medal with
Clasp). Employed in disarming the Banda district in 1859-60. Commanded a Division of the Transport Train
in the Abyssinian campaign (thanked in despatches for the “ extent and value of his assistance,” Medal).
258 Captain T. H. B. Brooke served with the expedition to China from 24th February 1857 to 30th January 1859.
259 Captain J. MacD. Smith served with the expedition to China from 24th February 1857 to 27th December 1859.
260 Captain G. B. Farrington was present at the capture of Copul on ist June 1858.
261 Captain W. Chisholm was actively employed during the mutiny against the insurgents in the Sumbulpore
district in 1857 and 1858.
262 Captain A. Wingfield was present at the capture of Shorapore on the 8th February 1858.
263 Captain H. A. T. Nepean was actively employed during the mutiny against the insurgents in the Sumbulpore
district m 1857-58.

267 Captain D. McNeill served in the suppression of the mutiny at Seetabuldee in June and July 1857, an(l with
the Kamptee flying column from 9th November 1858 to 26th January 1859; served also with the expedition to the
Puchmurree Hills, and was present at the capture of Hurrakote in November 1859.
269 Captain A. M. Lys was employed in suppressing the insurrection in the Pariah Kimedy district in 1856 and
1857.
270 Captain E. A. Wood was present with the North Canara Field Force m 1859.
271 Captain H. T. Harris was present against a body of Rohillas on the banks of the Kidhna river in Feb. 1859.
272 Captain R. B. Cummins served with the Land Transport Train in the Abyssinian Expedition in 1868 (Medal).
273 Captain W. H. Hodges served with the Saugor Field Division in 1857-58 in quelling the mutiny in India, and
was present at the relief of Kirwee, and storming of the heights of Punwarree. Served with the Saugor Field
Division in 1859, and was present in command of a detachment of his regiment at the action of Punwarree ; served
with Colonel Nott’s Field Force in pursuit of Feroze Shah and other rebels, and with Colonel Primrose’s Column j
present at Gopaulpore and other minor affairs (Medal).
274 Captain T. Higginson served on the North-West Frontier of India in the expedition against the Bezotee Tribe
iu Feb. 1869, and was mentioned in despatches and thanked by the Government of India. Served also with the
Meranzie Valley Field Force in April 1869.
275 Captain A. Cook was employed with a detachment of the 32nd Madras Native Infantry that formed part of the
force in the field to intercept the rebels under Tantia Topee from 9th November 1858. Was engaged in the pursuit
of insurgent Shans on the north-eastern frontier of Tenasserim and Martaban Provinces during May i860.
278 Captain J. B. Leggett was employed with the Bellary Movable Column in 1858.
279 Captain C. Hayter was employed in 1857-59 in Bengal, and served with the Shahabad Field Force under
Brigadier Douglas, and accompanied Captain Place with a party of one subadar and 25 sepoys, and by stratagem
surprised the rebel post of Maindoorah and captured 26 boats 7th August 1858 ; present at the taking of Suhar on
the left bank of the Soane and destruction of the rebel boats on the 21st August, again at the destruction of that town
