1 Sir Horatio Shirley served the Eastern campaign of 1854-55 ; commanded the 88th in the battles of Alma and
Inkerman, and siege of Sebastopol; was General Officer of the Trenches in the attack on the Quarries on the 7th
June, and at the attack on the 18th June, and commanded a Brigade at the attack on the Redan on the 8th Sept.—
wounded (Medal with three Clasps, CB., Officer of the Legion of Honor, Sardinian and Turkish Medals, and 3rd
Class of the Medjidie).
2 Lt.Colonel Hughes has the 4th Class of the Medjidie for service with the late Turkish Contingent, and the
Turkish Medal.
3 Major Lambert served with the 88th Regiment in the Crimea from the 22nd January to 26th March, and from
June to the 17th September 1855, including the siege and fall of Sebastopol, the attack of the Quarries, and attacks
of the Redan on the 18th June and 8th September—severely wounded (Medal with Clasp, and Turkish Medal).
Served also in suppression of the Indian mutiny in 1858, including the affair at Bhognapore, siege of Lucknow in
March, and siege of Calpee (Medal with Clasp for Central India).
4 Major Hall served with the 88th Regiment in the Crimea from 3rd July 1855, including the siege and fall of Sebas¬
topol, and attack of the Redan on the 8th September (Medal with Clasp, and Turkish Medal). Served also in sup¬
pression of the Indian mutiny in 1857-58, including the operations at Cawnpore from 3rd to 6th December 1857,
relief of Sundeelah, and capture of Birwah Fort—mentioned in despatches (Medal).
5 Major Hopton served with the 88th Regiment in the Crimea from 17th June 1855, including the siege and fall
of Sebastopol, and attacks of the Redan on the 18th June and 8th September—severely wounded (Medal with Clasp,
and Turkish Medal). Served also in suppression of the Indian mutiny in 1857-58, including the siege of Lucknow
in March 1858, and siege of Calpee (Medal with Clasp for Central India).
6 Major Fry served in the 86th Regiment with the Central India Field Force under Sir Hugh Rose in 1857-58, and
was present at the actions of Koonch, all the operations before Calpee from 15th to 22nd May, battle of Golowlie,
capture of the town and fortress of Calpee, battle of Morar, battle before and capture of the town and fortress of
Gwalior, and taking of Pourie (Medal with Clasp, and Brevet of Major).
7 Major Dalrymple served in the Ashanti War in 1874, as Special Commissioner to the Wassaws and Denkeras,
on the left flank of the Main line of Advance, and subsequently on the Transport Service (mentioned in despatches.
Brevet of Major, Medal with Clasp).
8 Captain Irwin served with the 88th Regiment in the Indian mutiny campaign in 1857-58, including the affair of
Bhognapore, siege of Lucknow in March 1858, siege of Calpee, and subsequent campaign in Oude (Medal with Clasp
for Central India).
® Major Moore served with the 88th Regiment in the Indian mutiny campaign from December 1857, including the
affair of Bhognapore, siege of Lucknow in March, siege of Calpee, affair of Selimpore (slightly wounded), action
near Sundeelah, taking of Birwah Forts—slightly wounded, and mentioned in despatches (Medal with Clasp for
Central India). Was employed in January 1874, during the Ashanti War, on a Mission in the Wassaw and Denkera
Country, the object being to endeavour to induce the people of these districts to assume the offensive against the
Ashantis (Brevet of Major, Medal).
