1 General Gascoigne served in the Peninsula from July 1813 to May 1814, including the passage of the Bidassoa,
battles of the NiveUe and Nive, and the investment of Bayonne. Served afterwards in the American war, and was
present at the battle of Bladensberg and capture of Washington, where he was severely wounded. He has received
the War Medal with three Clasps for San Sebastian, Nivelle, and Nive.
2 Colonel Bagot was in command of the Huntingdon Field Force to repel an incursion of Fenians into Canada
in May 1870. Eighteen hours after he left Montreal he fell upon them, strongly entrenched at Trout River, and
drove them across the frontier line, throwing away arms, accoutrements, clothing, &c. Lt.General the Hon. James
Lindsay conveyed his approbation of these operations in the following terms,—“ The Lt.General recognizes that to
your vigorous movements are due the speedy clearing of the Border and the return of a feeling of security to the
inhabitants of the district.” The following officers were present with the 69th Regiment during the above-
mentioned service, viz.—Majors Smyth (commanded the 69th Rgiment), Hon. C. J. Fox-Powys, and FitzGerald,
Captains Baiilett, Dyke, French, Aitchison, and Borton (as Adjutant), Lieutenants Wodehouse, Glendonwyn,
Townley, Holmes, Maclean, Gzowski, and Butler, and Quarter Master Whitcroft.
3 Captain Tulloch served as D.A.Q.M. General to the expeditionary force in the south of China under Sir Charles
Straubenzee; and in the ist Royals the campaign of i860 in the north of China, including the taking of Sinho and
Tangku, occupation of Tientsin, and surrender of Pekin (Medal with two Clasps).
