paign in Central India under Sir Hugh Rose,

in most of the latter engagements (Medal and Clasp, four times men¬
tioned in despatches).
7 Major Lewis served with the Central India Field Force
in 1858 and commanded three companies 86th Regt. during the
siege of Chandaiee and was slightly wounded at the storming
of the fort; was present at the battle of the Betwa and siege
and capture of the town and fortress of Jhansi —twice wound¬
ed, last time dangerously (mentioned in despatches, Brevet of
Major, Medal and Clasp).

1 Sir John Michel was nominated a CB. after the termination of the Kaffir war in 1853, in consideration of his
distinguished services in the Kaffir Wars of 1846-47 and of 1851-53 (Medal). Was nominated to the 2nd Class ol the
Mediidie for service with the late Turkish Contingent. Served in the Indian campaign in 1858-eJ m command ot the
Mhow field force, and defeated the rebels under Tantia Topee at Beorora, taking 27 guns ; subsequently actively engaged
in pursuing the fugitive bands (KCB and Medal). Commanded a division of the Army in the Campaign ot I860 in
China, including the action at Sinho (Medal with Clasp for the Taku Forts). „ . ,
2 Colonel Best served with the 10th Regt. in the Punjaub campaign of 1848-9, including the whole of the siege
operations before Mooltan and surrender of the fortress ; was afterwards present and slightly wounded m the leg at the
battle of Goojeerat (Medal and Clasps). , ,nrj i
3 Major Savage served with the 68th Light Infantry throughout the Eastern campaign of 18o4-5o, including the battles
of Alma, Balakluva, and Inkerman, siege and fall of Sebastopol (Medal and Clasps, Brevet of Major, Turkish Medal, and
4 Major Creagh served with a party of Volunteers attached to the Seinde Camel Corps during Sir Charles Napiers Campaign of 1815
against the mountain and desert tribes on the right bank of the Indus. Also on the Head Quarter Staff of the Azimghur field force during
the Campaign of 1858 in the N. W. Provinces of India, and was present at the action of Gth April before Azimghur and in the intrenchment
of that place from Gth to 14th April when besieged by Koer Sing’s force. Also at the assault of Jugdespore, actions at Jelowia 11th and 29th
May, Mctahi 24th May, and skirmishes in the Jugdespore Jungles (mentioned in Despatches, Medal, and Brevet o aj ... r
