War Services of the Lieutenants.
22 Lieut. Brearey served on the Walcheren expedition in 1809, and was present at the siege
and reduction of Flushing. He served also the campaigns of 1814 and 1815 in Holland and
the Netherlands, including the action at Merxem, bombardment of Antwerp, storming of
Bergen-op-Zoom, battle of Waterloo, storming of Cambray, and capture of Paris.
23 Lieut. Brice served in the Peninsula with the 23rd, from May 1812 to the end of that war
in 1814, and was present at the battles of Salamanca, Yittoria, and the Pyrenees (wounded).
Served also the campaign of 1815, including the battle of Waterloo, storming of Cambray, and
capture of Paris. He has received the War Medal with two Clasps.
24 Lieut. Bridge served the campaign of 1815 with the 73rd, and was severely wounded at
Waterloo.
25 Lieut. Charles Brown served in the Peninsula with the 50th and was present at the
surprise and capture of Fort Napoleon at Almaraz, retreat from Madrid, affair at Fuente
Decana, defence of, and repulse of the enemy at Alba de Tormes ; repulse of the enemy on the
rear-guard ; repulse of the enemy at Bejar; battle of Vittoria, action at Pampeluna, daily
skirmishing to the summit of the Pyrenees ; defence of the pass of Maya (thanked by Sir W.
Stewart), battle of the Pyrenees, and action with the enemy’s rear-guard ; various affairs on
the road to Boncesvalles ; battle of the Nivelle, and attack on the rear-guard ; action at Cambo;
passage of the Nive, battle of St. Pierre, Bayonne (wounded), affairs at Hellette and Arriverette,
(bayonet wound in the hand), attack of the heights of Garris, and action at St. Palais (severely
wounded). He has received the War Medal with four Clasps.
26 Lieut. Bubb served in the Peninsula with the 61st and was present at the battles of the
Pyrenees, Nivelle, Nive, and Orthes, for which he has received the War Medal with four Clasps.
27 Lieut. Wm. T. Buchanan landed at Passages in Spain, and was engaged almost daily
during the march of Lord Hill’s division across the Pyrenees, as also frequently on the
banks of the Bidassoa. He was afterwards present at the battles of Bayonne, Orthes, and
Toulouse. He has received the War Medal with four Clasps for Nivelle, Nive, Orthes, and
Toulouse.
28 Lieut. Burlton was present in 1854-55, before Sebastopol during its siege and fall; with
the R. M. Battalion at the occupation of Kertch and Yeni Kale ; in action with the outer
forts of Sebastopol on 17th June ; and at the bombardment and surrender of Kinbourn (Medal
and Clasp).
29 Lieut. Burslem served at the siege of Houat, and commanded a detachment of Artillery in
a night attack on the batteries of Morbihan. Landed at Ferrol with the army under the com¬
mand of Sir James Pulteney, and was attached to the reserve on the heights. Served the
campaign of 1801 in Egypt, including the siege of Aboukir and battle of Alexandria, at which
latter he lost his right leg by a cannon-shot. Medal for services in Egypt.
30 Lieut. W. Butler served the campaign of 1815 with the 3rd Guards, and was present at
the battle of Waterloo.
31 Lieut. Butterworth served in the Peninsula with the 32nd and was present at the battles
of Boleia, Vimiera, Talavera, Salamanca, Pyrenees, and Nivelle, for which he has received the
War Medal with six clasps.
32 Lieut. Cahill served in the Peninsula with the 36th, and has reeeived the Silver War
Medal with four Clasps for the Pyrenees, Nive, Orthes, and Toulouse.
33 Lieut. Donald Cameron (h. p. 60 Foot) served in the Peninsula with the 7th Fusiliers
from Aug. 1811 to the end of that war in 1814, including the actions at Fuentes Guinaldo and
Adea de Ponte, battle of Salamanca, Vittoria, the Pyrenees, St. Marcial near St. Sebastian,
31st Aug., Nivelle, Nive, and Orthes (wounded). He was afterwards present at the assault on
New Orleans, and at the capture of Paris. He has the War Medal with six Clasps.
34 Lieut. L. M. Cameron served the campaigns of 1813 and 14 in the Peninsula, and was
present at the battle of the Pyrenees on the 28th, 29th, and 30th July, the blockade of
Pampeluna, battle of the Nivelle, battle of the Nive from 9th to 13th Dec., investment of
Bayonne, and battle of Toulouse. Served also during the late Canadian Rebellion, and
commanded a party of Volunteers on the Niagara frontier. He has received the War Medal
with four Clasps.
35 Lieut. Alex. Campbell, Royal Marines, served in the action off Ferrol, 1805 ; and in
action with a Danish Flotilla off Maudal, 1810. War Medal with one Clasp.
36 Lieut. C. W. Campbell served in the Peninsula with the 39th and was present at the
battles of the Pyrenees, Nivelle, Orthes, and Toulouse, for which he has received the War
Medal with four Clasps.
37 Lieut. James Campbell (h. p. 41st), served the campaign in Affghanistan with the 41st
and was present at the action of Hykulzie on the 28th March 1842.
38 Lieut. Rupert Campbell served the campaign of 1806, in Sicily and Italy, including the
skirmish at Eufemia, battle of Maida, attack on and taking of the Castle of Scylla, also the
capture of Catrone. Campaign of 1807, in Egypt, including the attack on the forts and heights
of Alexandria, and capture of that city on the 19th, 20th, and 21st March ; also the attacks in
the Desert, and siege of Rosetta. Campaign in Holland and the Netherlands in 1814 and 15,
including both the actions of Merxem, and bombardment of Antwerp, where he rendered
important personal service to his late Majesty King William IV., then present with the army as
Duke of Clarence. He has received the War Medal with one Clasp for Maida.
