1 Lord Combcrmere accompanied bis regt. (the Gth Dr. Gds.) to Flanders in Aug. 1708, and served to the
end of that campaign, anti until June of the following one. In 17CG he embarked in command of tire 25th
Lt. Drs. for the Cape of Good Hope, and served a short but active campaign under Sir Thomas Craig, when
he accompanied bis regt. to India, where he served in the memorable campaigns of 1798 and 99, against
Tippoo Suitaun, including tire battle of Mallavelly, and siege of Soringapatam. Proceeded to the Peninsula
in 1808, in command of a brigade of cavalry, consisting of the 14th and 16th Lt. Drs., at Hie head of which
he distinguished himself, during the campaign in the north of Portugal, including the operations at Oporto,
and afterwards at the battle of Talavera. In Aug. 1809, the local rank of Lieut.-Gen. was conferred upon
hint; and, early in 1810, he was appointed to the command of the whole allied cavalry under the Duke of
Wellington, and remained in that command until the termination of the war in 1814, nnd distinguished
himself at the head of the cavalry upon every occasion that presented itself, including the various actions
in covering the retreat from Almeida to Torres Vedras, battle of Busaco, actions at Villa Garcia and
Castrajon, battles of Fuentes d’Onor and Salamanca (severely wounded), action at El Bodon, battles of
the Pyrenees, Orthes, and Toulouse. Served also at the siege and capture of Ehurtpore, in 1825 and 26,
as Commander-in-chief. His lordship has received a Medal for Seringapatnm ; the gold Cross nnd one
Clasp for the battles of Tnlavera, Fuentes d’Onor, Salamanca, Orthes, and Toulouse; and the silver War
Medal with three clasps for Busnco, Ciudad Rodrigo, and Pyrenees.
4 Mr. Percivall served in the Peninsula from September, 1818, to the end of the War in 1814, and was
present in the battle of Toulouse. Served also the campaign of 1815, including the capture of Paris. He
has received the War Medal with two clasps for Orthes and Toulouse.
