6 Lieut. Synge served with the
Cameronians on the China expe¬
dition (medal), and carried the
colours of the regiment at the re¬
pulse of the night attack on Ningpo,
the attack and capture of Chapoo,
the taking of Shanghae and Woo-
sung, the storming of Chin Kiang
Foo, and the operations before
Nankin.
7Lt. DuVernet was on board the ill-fated Runny-
mode, when that ship was cast away on the Andaman
I ales, near Humaon.in Not. 1844, with detachments of
the 10th and 50th regts.on board, where he remained
for fifty-four days surrounded by Cannibals and suiter-
ing great privations. He served afterwards with the
50th in the campaign on the Sutlej (medal), and »ao
present at Buddiwal and Aliwal, at which last he re-
ceived a slight wound in the right knee from a grape-
shot, after which he was severely wounded in the left
foot by the bursting of a shell. .

ghur, March and April, 1819.
