1 Sir Joseph Thackwell served the campaign in Gallicia and Leon under Sir John Moore, and was engaged
in several skirmishes, and present at the battle of Corunna. Served the campaigns of 1818 and 14 in tho
Peninsula, including the battles of Vittoria, the Pyrenees in front of Pamp.duna, 27th, 28th, 29th, and 30th
July ; blockade of Pampeiuna, from 16th to the 31st Oct. when it surrendered; battle of Orthes, affair at
Tarbes, and battle of Toulouse; besides many affairs of advanced guards, outposts, &c. Served also tho
campaign of 1815, including the action at Quatre Bras, the retreat on the following day, and battle of
Wateiloo. Commanded the cavalry division of the army of the Indus during the Affghanistan campaign ;
was present at the storm and capture of Ghuznee ; and commanded the 2nd column of the army on its
march from Cabool to Bengal. Commanded the cavalry division in the action at Maharajpore on the 29th
Dec. 1843. Contused on the right shoulder at Vittoria, and severely wounded at Waterloo (left arm ampu¬
tated close to the shoulder) in charging a square of infantry; had also two horses shot under him. He
commanded the cavalry in the battle of Sobraon (Medal); as also in the late Punjaub campaign.
2 Lieut. Col. Smyth served with the 16th Lancers at the siege of Bhurtpore, under Lord Combermere. He was also present
with the Regt. in the action of Maharajpore, 29 Dec. 43 ; and in the campaign on the Sutlej in 1846, including the battles of
Buddiwal and Aliwal, in the last of which he commanded the Regt. until severely wounded in the thigh by a musket-ball
whilst charging the enemy’s infantry and guns.
3 Maj. Gavin served with the 16th Lancers during the campaign in AfTghanistan under Lord Keane, including the siege and
capture of Ghuznee (medal). He was also present at the battle of Maharajpore, 9th Dec. 1843 (medal).
6 Capt. Power served with the 9th Lancers in the battle of Punniar (Medal). Also in the campaign on the Sutlej in 1846,
including the battle of Sobraon (Medal).
7 Captain Foster served with the 16th Lancers during the campaign in Affghanistan under Lord Keane, including the
siege and capture of Ghuznee (medal). He served also at the battle of Maharajpore, 9th Dec. 1843 (medal) ; and in the
campaign on the Sutlej in 1846 (medal), including the battles of Buddiwal, Aliwal (as Aide-de-Camp to Brigadier Cureton),
and Sobraon.
9 Lieut. Dynon served with the 16th Lancers during the campaign in Affghanistan under Lord Keane, including the
siege and capture of Ghuznee (medal). He served also at the battle of Maharajpore (medal), 9th Dec. 1843 ; and in the
campaign on the Sutlej in 1846 (medal), including the battles of Ruddiwal, Aliwal, and Sobraon.
10. Lieut. Archer-Burton served the campaign on the Sutlej (medal) with the 3rd Lt. Dragoons, and was present at the
battles of Moodkee, Ferozeshah, and Sobraon.
13 Paymaster Rosser was present at the siege and capture of Bhurtpore, in 1825-6. He served with the army of the
Indus, under Lord Keane, in 1838 and 39, and was present at the capture of Ghuznee (medal). He was also present
in the action at Maharajpore, 29th Dec. 1843, (Medal) ; and also at Buddiwal, Aliwal, and Sobraon.
14 Qr.-Mast. Lamb served with the 16th Lancers during the campaign in Affghanistan under Lord Keane, including the
*iege and capture of Ghuznee (Medal). Also at the battle of Maharajpore (Medal) 29th Dec. 1843 ; and in the campaign
on the Sutlej (Medal) in 1846, including the battle of Buddiwal, Aliwal, and Sobraon.
15 Doctor Wood served with the 9th Lancers in the Gwalior campaign in 1843 [MedalJ ; also the campaign on the Sutlej in
1846, and was present at the battle of Sobraon ( Medal).
