He has received the gold Medal and one Clasp for Yittoria and the Pyrenees ; and the silver
War Medal with four Clasps for Busaco, Albuhera, Badajoz, and Toulouse.
110 Major-General Paty served on the expedition to Copenhagen in 1807. Served afterwards
in the Peninsula from June 1811 to the end of that war in 1814, including the siege and capture
of Badajoz, battle of Salamanca, retreat from Madrid to Burgos, battles of Yittoria, the
Pyrenees and Nivelle, battles of the Nive on the 9th, 10th, lltb, 12th, and 13th Dec. 1813,
besides various minor affairs. He has received the War Medal with six Clasps.
111 Lord James Hay served in the Peninsula and was present at the battles of Vimiera,
Talavera, Busaco, Puentes d’Onor, Vittoria, Pyrenees, Nivelle, and Nive, for which he has
received the War Medal with eight Clasps. He served also the Waterloo campaign.
112 Major-General T. J. Wemyss served with the Walcheren expedition in 1809, and subse¬
quently in the Peninsula as Major of Brigade to the 50th, 71st, and 92nd, from the formation
of that Brigade under Lord Howard in 1810, to its final embarkation at Bourdeaux in 1814 ;
and was present in the different affairs during the retreat to the Lines near Lisbon, actions of
Pombal, Kedinha, Foz d’Arouce, battle of Puentes d’Onor, surprise of Gerard at Arroyo de
Molinos, storm of Port Napoleon, and the bridge of Almaraz, action of Alba de Tormes,
defence of Bejar, battle of Vittoiia (received the Brevet rank of Major), and the Pyrenees, at
Maya, Lesacca, and Donna Maria (severely wounded), battles of the Nivelle, Cam bo, Nive,
St. Pierre (wounded), Hellette, Garris, St. Palais, Tarbes, Arriveriette, Orthes, Aire, and
Toulouse, besides numerous minor affairs. Served also against the Kandians in Ceylon. He
has received the War Medal with seven Clasps.
113 Major-General Gabriel was employed on the Walcheren expedition in 1809. Served
afterwards on the staff in the Peninsula until the end of that war in 1814, and has received the
War Medal and four Clasps for Busaco, Albuhera, Vittoria, and Pyrenees, and obtained the
brevet rank of Major for the battle of the Pyrenees ; and that of Lieut.-Colonel for former
services in the field.
114 Major-General Thomas served in Sicily from 1805 to 1812. Joined the 3rd battalion of
the 27th in Portugal in April 1813, and was present with it at the battles of Vittoria and the
Pyrenees. Commanded the Light Companies of the right brigade of the 4th division at the
battles of Nivelle, Orthes, and Toulouse, for which he has received the gold medal and two
Clasps; and the silver War Medal with three Clasps for Vittoria, Pyrenees, and Nive. Served
afterwards in the American war; also at the capture of Paris.
115 Major-General Rowan served with the 52nd in Sicily, in 1806 and 7; on the expedition
to Sweden, in 1808; in the Peninsula under Sir John Moore in 1808-9; at Walcheren in 1809,
including the bombardment and surrender of Flushing. In Portugal from 26th Jan. to 1st June
1811, including the action at Sabugal. Subsequently in the Peninsula and South of Prance
from 10th Jan. 1813, to the end of that war in 1814, including the battle of Vittoria, passage of
the Bidassoa, battles of the Nivelle, Nive, Orthes, and Toulouse, together with the intermediate
affairs. Served also the campaign of 1815, and was present at the battle of Waterloo. Re¬
ceived the brevet rank of Major for the battle of Orthes, and that of Lieut.-Colonel for former
services in the field. He has received the War Medal with six Clasps.
116 Major-General Sbaw Kennedy served with the 43rd at the siege of Copenhagen and
battle of Kioge in 1807. In the Peninsula from 1808 to 1812 inclusive, and was present at the
action of the Coa, siege and capture of Ciudad Rodrigo and of Badajoz, and battle of Salamanca,
for which he has received the War Medal with three Clasps. Served also the campaign of 1815,
including the battles of Quatre Bras and Waterloo.
117 Lord Sandys accompanied the 10th Hussars to the Peninsula in 1812, and was present in
the action at Morales, and battles of Vittoria and Pampeluna. Served also the campaign of
1815, as an Aide-de-camp to the Duke of Wellington, and was present at the battle of Waterloo.
118 Sir Thomas Henry Browne carried the King’s Colour of the 23rd at the siege of Copen¬
hagen in 1807. Accompanied his regiment to America; thence to the West Indies, and was
wounded at the capture of Martinique. Proceeded again to America, and thence to Portugal in
1811. He was appointed to the Staff of the Adjutant-General in 1812, and was in the field at
the battles of Salamanca, capture of Madrid and the Retiro, siege of Burgos, Vittoria (where
he was wounded in the head), the Pyrenees, Nivelle, the actions of the 11th, 12th, and 13th
Dec. 1813, before Bayonne, Nive, Tarbes, Orthes, and Toulouse. On the escape of Napoleon
from Elba, he was appointed Aide-de-camp to Lord Stewart (the present Marquis of London¬
derry), and served the campaign of 1815 with him, at the head-quarters of the Austrian and
Russian armies. He has received the War Medal with eight Clasps.
119 Major-General Maclachlan was honourably mentioned in Colonel Gillespie’s despatch, for
his conduct at the suppression of the mutiny at Vellore in 1806, on which occasion he was the
senior officer present, and severely wounded.
120 Major-General Nicolls with thirteen volunteers in a boat of the Blanche frigate, boarded
and captured, on the 3rd Nov. 1803, the French armed cutter Albion from under the guns of
Monte Christie, St. Domingo,—in this action he was severely wounded by a musket-ball, which
entering the abdomen, and coming out at his right side, lodged in the arm. On board the
Standard at the passage of the Dardanelles on the 19th Feb. 1807. On the 26tb June 1808,
with a boat’s crew, he boarded and captured the Italian gun-boat Volpe near Corfu. Present at
