the American war in 1814; vo¬
lunteered to pass through the
American fleet on Lake Onta¬
rio, in command of Bateaux,
with provisions for the Niagara
Frontiers. Present at the siege
of Fort Erie, and thanked in
public orders by Sir Gordon
Druinmond, for assisting to take
a foraging party at Sugar-Loaf.
Present also at the defence of
the Tete-du-pont, on the Chip-
peway Creek.
7 Quarter-master Macdonald
served at Waleheren, and was
present at the siege of Flushing.
Served afterwards in the Peninsula, including the
battle of Busaco, Lines of Tones Vedras, and
subsequent advance from thence; battle of Sala¬
manca, capture of Madrid, siege of Burgos, and
retreat from thence, action at Osma, battle of
Vittoria, siege and cajjture of San Sebastian
(wounded), passage of the Bidassoa and storm¬
ing the heights (wounded), passage of the Nive
9th (wounded) 10th and 11th Dec, investment of
Bayonne, and repulse of the sortie, (severely con¬
tused on the head from the fragment of a shell),
besides various minor actions and skirmishes.

1 Sir Howard Douglas served in Portugal and Spain in 1808 and 9, and was present at the battle of
Corunna. Served afterwards at Walchercn, including the siege and bombardment of Flusiiing.
2 Sir Gaspard Le Marchant served as Adjutant General to the Aiiilo-Spanish Legion, and Brigadier
General in the Spanish service during the years 1835, 6, and 7. Was present at the relief of Bilboa and
atfair before that town in Sept. 1835. Engaged on the heights of Arlaban in Alava on the ICth, 17th, and
18th Jan.; in raising the siege of San Sebastian, and storming the Lints 5th May; passage of the Urmea,
and taking of Passages 28th May; in the general action before Alz;i, Oct. 1886, besides several affairs in Gui-
puzcoa, as also in the general actions of the 10th, 13th, 15th, and I6th March before Hernani. F'or these
serv.CCS he received a medal.
3 Lieut.-Col. Jackson served in the Peninsula from 1810 to the end of the war in 1814, including the siege of
Cadiz, Lines at Torres Vedras, Massena's retreat from Portugal, actions and affairs at Porabal, Redinha, Leira,
Condeixa, Fkur-dc-Lis, Guada, Foz d'Arouce, and Sabugal; battle of Fuentes d'Onor, Srd and 5th May,
siege of Badajoz in Jiine and July, 1811, actions at El Bodon and Guinaldo, siege and storm of
Ciudad Rodrigo, third siege of Badajoz and storm of the Castle by escalade, flth April, 1812; battle of Sa-
lavnanca, capture of Madrid, the Retire, and Fort La China, and in command of an escort of the third Divi¬
sion in charge of the garrison of Fort La China on route to Ciudad Rodrigo. Retreat to Portugal, Oct. and
Nov. 1812, battles of Vittoria, Pyrenees, Nivelle, und Orthes; actions at Vic Bigorre and Tarbes, battle of
Toulouse, and the whole of the various minor atlairs during that period.
4 Lieut. Cowell served the Kandian campaigns of 1817 and 18, and was engaged with the enemy on
numerous occasions.
5 Mr. Williams served at Walchereu in 1809, and in the Peninsula from 1810 to 1818.
8 Major M'Pherson served the campaign of 1814, in Holland, including the actiont at Mcrxem and bom¬
bardment of Antweip. 251
