nied the 4th Regiment in the
expedition to Hanover in 1805;
in June 1808 embarked for Por¬
tugal with tlie 40th Regt., and
remained in the Peninsula until
the end of that war in 1814; he
was present at the battles of
Roleia, Vimiera, and Busaco,
retreat to and occupation of the
Lines of Torres Vedras, subse¬
quent advance in pursuit of
Massena, combats of Pombal
and Redinha, re-capture of
Campo Mayor, siege and cap¬
ture of OUven(;a, first siege of
'ijadajoz, attacli of Fort San
Christoval, and sortie from thence on the 10th
May, when he was wounded in the left breast;
combats of El Bodon and Aldoa de Ponte, siege
and capture of Ciudad Rodrigo, battle of Sala-
raancii, capture of and retreat from Mad]id,
battle of Vittoria, blockade of Pampeiuna, uttairs
in the Pyrenees (severely wounded at Linzoaiu),
advance into France, battles of Orthes and
Toulouse. Proceeded afterwards to join the
force against New Orleans ; returned in time to
be present at the battle of Waterloo, and cap¬
ture of Paris.

1 Sir Alex. DufTserved in Flanders; accompanied the expedition from the East Indies to Egypt, where he
served until the peace of 1802. Sir Alex, commanded the centre column in the attack upon Buenos Ayres.
6 Lieut. Servantes embarked for tlie Peninsula in Oct. 1810 es a volunteer, and served as such with the 48th
and 60th Regts. up to and at the battle of AUiuhera. when he was Gazetted to an Ensigncy in the 87tli, which
Regt. being ordered to England, he got removed back to the 66th for the purpose of remaining on service,
and contmued to serve in the Peninsula until the end of that war in 1814, including the battles of Vittoria
(wounded), Pyrenees, Nivelle, Nive, Orthes, Aire, and Toulouse, besides several minor engagements. Wounded
in the face in 1811 when on escort duly.
