War Services of the Colonels. 53
32 Colonel Forbes served in Holland in 1794 and 95, including the sortie from Nimeguen
against the French lines, action in driving the French across the Waal at Bommel, and at
Geldermansel. Accompanied his regiment, the 78th, to Quiberon Bay, and was at the
taking of Isle Dieu, inl795; to the Cape of Good Hope, in 1796, and capture of the Dutch
fleet in Saldanha hay. Proceeded with his regiment to India in Nov. following, and served
with it during the campaign in Oude, in 1798 and 99 ; also in part of the Mahratta campaign
in 1803, including the storm of the Petah of Ahmednughur, and during the siege of the Fort.
Present in every action in which his regiment was engaged in Java during 1811, 12, and 13,
including the forcing of the enemy's position at Weltevreden, storm of the lines of Cornelis,
the heights of Serandole, and Djocjocarta. Quelled an insurrection which broke out in the
east end of Java in May 1813, when Lieut.-Colonel Fraser and Ca|itain Macpherson of the
78th, were murdered by the insurgents. Medal for services in Java, and five times thanked
in general orders.
33 Colonel Proctor served with the expedition to Walcheren, in 1809, and was present at
the siege of Flushing. Served also at Gibraltar, Tarifa, and in the Peninsula, from 1810 to
Dec. 1812, and subsequently in the Peninsula and South of France, from April to July
1814, including the aflfair of Posts near Malaga, battle of Barrosa (contusion on the body),
and retreat from Madrid. Embarked from Bourdeaux for Canada, and commanded the 82nd
before Fort Erie, from 2nd Sept., and throughout the successive operations of that war.
34 Colonel VVm. Riddall was actively employed with the 62nd in Sicily, Egypt, Calabria,
Italy, Spain, and America, from 1806 to the end of the war.
35 Colonel Addison served in the American war, on the staff of Sir J. Sherbrooke.
36 Colonel C. J. Doyle served in the Peninsula, and was present at the passage of the
Douro and capture of Oporto, battle of Talavera, action at Campo Mayor, and battle of
Fuentes d'Onor.
37 Colonel Charretie served in the Peninsula from 1812 to the end of that war in 1814,
including the battles of Vittoria and Toulouse.
37* Colonel Patrick Campbell (R. Artillery) was at the capture of St. Lucia in 1796, and
subsequently in the Carib war in St. Vincent. Served also in the Peninsula from Jan. 1809
to the end of that war in 1814, including the battles of Talavera and Castalla.
38 Colonel Parkinson served at the capture of the Island of Bourbon, as Deputy Adjutant
General. Proceeded with the 33rd to Stralsund in Pomerania, in 1813 ; and from thence to
Holland, in 1814 ; was present at the attack on Merxem and bombardment of Antwerp, and
commanded the Regt. at the storming of Bergen-op-Zoom, where he received a severe con¬
tusion. Served also the campaign of 1815, and was severely wounded at Quatre Bras.
39 Colonel Tho. Hunter Blair served in Portugal and Spain from August 1808 to Jan.
1809, including the affair of Obidos, battles of Roleia and Vimiera, action at Lugo, and
battle of Corunna. Proceeded again to the Peninsula in August 1809, and was present at
the capture of Oporto, affair of Salamonde, and battle of Talavera, at which last he was
severely wounded and made prisoner in hospital. Served also the campaign of 1815, and
was severely wounded at Waterloo. Commanded a brigade in Ava, and was present at the
caj)ture of Melloon.
40 Colonel Lluellyn served in the Peninsula with the 28th, from 1809 to the end of that
war in 1814; also the campaign of 1815, including the battles of Quatre Bras and Waterloo,
at which latter he was severely wounded.
41 Colonel John Hare's services :—Landing at the Helder and campaign under the Duke
of York, Aug. 1799 ; landing and advance upon Ferrol, 25th and 26th Aug. 1800 ; Egyp¬
tian campaign of 1801: capture of the Islands of Ischia and Procida, in 1809; campaigns
on the eastern coast of Spain from Aug. 1812 to the end of that war in 1814, including the
taking of Alcoy, battles of Biar and Castalla, siege of and operations before Tarragona, and
blockade of Barcelona. Campaign of 1815, including the battle of Waterloo (wounded),
and capture of Paris. Medal for services in Eg3'pt.
42 Colonel Wade served in the Peninsula as aid-de-camp to Sir Lowry Cole, and was
severely wounded at the battle of Albuhera.
43 Colonel Egerton, after serving as a subaltern with the 29th in North America, and pro¬
ceeding as a Captain with the 89th to South America, accompanied the 2Md battalion of the
34th to the Peninsula, in 1809. In the following year was appointed to the stafi" as Deputy-
Assistant-Adjutant-General, and attached to the second division, in which capacity he
served at the battle of Busaco, and on the retreat to and during the subsequent occupation
of the lines before Lisbon. He was then removed as senior of the Adjutant General's De¬
partment to the fourth division ; was present at the siege and capture of OHven^:a, the first
siege of Badajoz, battle of Albuhera (wounded), and action of Aldea de Ponte. Relin¬
quished his staff appointment and rejoined his regiment in the winter of 1811, and continued
to serve with it until appointed aide-de-camp to Sir Rowland Hill in 1812, on whose per¬
sonal staff he remained until the termination of the war, and was present at the battles of
Vittoria, Pyrenees—for which he obtained the brevet rank of Major,— Nivelle, Nive, Orthes,
and Toulouse. On Lord Hill's appointment to a command with the army in Flanders in the
spring of 1815, he selected Colonel Egerton as his first aide-de-camp, who served as such
