34 War Services of the General Officers.
148 Sir Archibald Maclaine's services ^—Mysore campaign of 1799 against Tippoo Sultan,
including tlie buttle of JMallavelly, siege and storming of Seringajiatam, where he received
three wounds, from the eft'ects of which he was confined in hospital for upwards of a year.
Capture of the Danish settlement of Tranquebar ; and the Paligar war in 1301, including
the battle of Ardingy, and affair of Serungapore, where he was wounded, Mahratta war of
1802, 3, and 1 against Scindia, llolkar, and the Bera Kajah, including the storm of Jal-
naghur, siege and storming of Gawilghur, siege of Asseerghur (wounded), and battle of
Argaum. Ordered liome in 1804 in consequence of severe wounds received in the different
actions from 1799 to 1804. Peninsular camijaigns 1810, 11, 12, including the siege of
Cadiz, the defence of Matagorda (an outwork of Cadiz, and a ruined redoubt when taken
possession of from the enemy) from 22nd Feb. to 22nd April, 1810, during which long pe¬
riod Sir Archibald (then a captain in the old 94th regiment) with a very small force under
his command, most gallantly kept at bay 8,000 of the enemy under Marshal Soult, who con¬
ducted the siege, and did not evacuate until ordered to do so by Lieut.-General Sir i'hos.
Graham, his men being nearly all either killed or wounded. Served also at the battle of
-Barrosa (dangerously wounded, and his horse killed), and capture of Seville.
149 Major General James Hay served in the Peninsula, France, and Flanders, with the
I6th Light Dragoons, and was severely wounded at Waterloo. Medal and a clasp for the
battles of Vittoiia and the Is'ive.
150 Sir William Warre served in the Peninsula from 1808 to 1813. including the battles
of Roleia, Vimiera, and Corunna ; the passage of the Douro, 1st siege of Badajoz, sieges
and assaults of Ciudad llodrigo and Badajoz, and battle of Salamanca, besides various minor
affairs.
151 Major General D'Aguilar served in India under Lord Lake, and was present at the re¬
duction of several forts, and at the assault on Bhurtpore. Pioceeded to Walcheren iu
June, 1809. Served also on the eastern coast of Spain under Sir John Murray and Sir
Henry Clinton.
152 Major General O'Malley served in Ireland during the rebellion, in 1798 ; with the
expedition to the Ferrol, in 1800; the Egyptian campaign of 1801, wounded in the action
of the 13th March. Served also the campaign of 1815, including the actions at Quatre Bias
and Waterloo, at which latter he was twice wounded, and had two horses shot under him,
but did not quit the field.
153 Major General Cotton served at the Helder, including the actions of the 2nd and 6th
Oct. 1799. Proceeded to the Peninsula in 1808, and served with the Spanish army.
154 Major GeneralTurner served the Egyptian campaign of 1801, including the actions
of the 8th and 13th March, and was taken prisoner in a skirmish near Lake Mareotis, 18th
March. Served also at the capture of Martinique, in 1809. Medal for services in Egypt.
155 Major General Burrell served at the capture of Guadaloupe in 1810 ; and the cam¬
paign of 1814 in Upper Canada. He is now serving in China and commanded the land
force at the capture of Ciiusan, and a brigade at the attack upon Canton.
156 Major General Ogilvie served in the American war, and was severely wounded at
Stoney Creek.
157 Major General Aylmer served at the Helder in 1799, including the action of the
18th Sept.; Egyptian campaign of 1801 ; in Spain and Portugal in 1808—9, including
the battles of lloieia, Vimiera, and Corunna ; and subsequently with the expedition to
Walcheren.
158 Major General EIrington's services :—Campaigns in Holland fiom 1793 to Feb. 1795,
including the attack on Famars, and siege of Valenciennes. Carribeau war of 1795 and 6 in
the West Indies ; siege and storming of Monte Video and attack on Buenos Ayres. Attack
and capture of Has-el-Kimah in the Persian Gulf, in 1809. Commanded a field force at the
reduction of Palam])ore, Uresa, Kirjah, and Virampore in 1817; and a brigade during the
Pindarree war. Commanded a brigade up the Persian Gulf, in 1819; and from Dec. 1824,
throughout the Burmese war. Shot througli the body before Dunkirk, Sept. 1793, and
through the thigh at the island of St. Vincent in July, 1796.
159 Major General Vernon served in the Peninsula, and was present at the battle of Tala-
vera, siege of the forts and battle of Salamanca (severely wounded), and siege of Burgos.
160 Sir James A. Hope served with the expedition to Ilanover, in 1805 ; to Zealand, in
1807, including the siege of Copenhagen ; to Sweden, in 1808; in Portugal and Spain, in
1808-—9, including the action at Lugo and battle of Corunna ; with the expedition to Wal¬
cheren, in 1809 ; the Peninsular canqjaigns from 1810 to the end of that war in 1814, includ¬
ing the battle of Barrosa, siege of Ciudad Rodrigo, covering the siege of Badajoz, affairs in
front of Salamanca and at Osma, battle of A'ittoria, siege of San Sebastian, passages of the
Bidassoa, Gave d'Oleron, and Gave de Pau : battles of the ]S'ivelle, JS'ive, Orthes, and
Toulouse. Sir James has received a cross and a clasp for the battles of Vittoria, Nivelle,
Nive, Orthes, and Toulouse.
161 Sir Robert Harvey served as Assistant-Quarter-lMaster-General of the British and of
tlie Portuguese armies in Portugal, Spain, and France, from 1809 to the close of the war in
1814, and was present at tlie battles of the passage of the Douro and Busaco, seqond sieg«
