March, and that of Rahmanie, 9th May, on the Nile, in command of the 8th Regt. at Grand
Cairo when that city was surrendered. Served in the Mediterranean in command of the 2d
Battalion of the 27th Regt. and was present at the capture of the Islands of Ischia and Pro-
cida, in 1809. Afterwards in the Peninsula, from 1811 to 1813, including the taking of Alcoy
by storm, action of Biar, battle of Castalla in command of the Light Division, action of the
advanced posts at Ordal—severely wounded when in command of the Light Division, and
sent home for recoverv. Medal for services in Egypt.
142 Major-General John Grey served in the East Indies in the campaign against 'J'ippoo
Sultan, including the battle of Mallavelly, tlie attack of the Tope and Sultan pettah before
Seringapatam, siege of Seringapatam, and on the storming party at the assault—medal for this
service. Served in the Peninsula with the 5th regiment, and was a major in the 2nd battalion
when the French and Polish Lancers attacked that regiment, at El Bodou ; present at the
siege of Ciudad Rodrigo, also at the scaling of the fausse hraye on the night of the storm,
and at the storming of the great breach, which was carried by the 2nd battalion of the 5th
regiment,—twice wounded during the siege : present also at the action of Fuente Guinaldo.
143 Sir Alexander Cameron served the campaign of 1799, in Holland; with the expedi¬
tion to the Ferrol, in 1800 ; the Egyptian campaign of 1801, severely wounded in the arm
and side at the battle of Alexandria. Expedition to Germany under Lord Cathcart, in 1805 ;
and to Copenhagen, in 1807, including the battle of Kioge. Landed in Portugal in 1808,
and was present at the battle of Vimiera, with the rear guard during the retreat, affair of
Calcavellas, and battle of Corunna. Proceeded again to the Peninsula in May 1809, and
was present at the battle of Fuentes d'Onor, sieges and assaults of Ciudad Rodrigo and
Badajoz, battles of Salamanca and Vittoria, besides a great many minor actions and other
desultory services, until obliged to return to England, owing to a severe wound received at
Vittoria. Served also the campaigns of 1814 and 15 in Holland, Flanders, and France, in¬
cluding the action at Merxem, operations before Antwerp, and battles of Quatre Bras and
Waterloo, at which last he was severely wounded. Sir Alexander has received a medal
for services in Egypt; and a medal and two clasps for Ciudad Rodrigo, Badajoz, and
Salamanca.
144 Sir James Wilson has received a cross and a clasp for Albuhera, Badajoz, Salamanca,
Vittoria, and loulouse.
145 Major-General Dalmer's services :—Expedition to Ostend, in 1798 : to Holland, in
1799, including the action near the Helder 27th Aug. and the subsequent actions of the 2nd
and 6th Oct. Expedition to Ferrol, Vigo Bay, and Cadiz, in 1800; Egyptian campaign of
1801, including the actions of the 8th, 12th, 13th, and 21st March. Expedition to Hanover,
in 1805 ; and that to Copenhagen, in 1807, including the operations which led to the capitu¬
lation of Copenhagen, and the capture of the Danish fleet. Expedition to Corunna in 1808,
including the operations in the North of Spain, and subsequently re-embarked at Corunna.
Peninsular campaigns of 1811, 12, and 13, including the actions of El Bodon and Aldea de
Ponte, battlesof Salamanca (severely wounded) and Vittoria. Campaign of 1815, including
the battle of Waterloo (where his horse was killed under him), assault and capture of Cam-
bray, and capture of Paris. Medal for services in Egypt; and a medal and a clasp for the
battlesof Salamanca and Vittoria.
146 Sir Henry Watson commanded the 1st Portuguese cavalry at the battle of Salamanca
and has received a medal.
147 Major-General Thomas Evans served at the capture of Demerara and Berbice, in
1796; operations at Minorca, in 1799; on the coast of Spain, Malta, and Marmorice, in
1800; Egyptian campaign of 1801, including the actions at the landing, at Mandora, Alex¬
andria, and Rhamanie, capture of Khamanie fort and garrison, several affairs on the march to
Cairo, siege and surrender of that city ; several affairs before Alexandria ; siege and surrender
of that city and fortress. In the suppression of a dangerous conspiracy of the Maroons and
Blacks iu Jamaica, in 1806. Served also throughout the whole of the American war,
including the defence of Fort George, the destruction of the enemy's batteries, and directing
the force on Queenstown, which enabled Major-General Sheatl'e to defeat and capture the
American army ; bombardment of Fort George and Messessagua, and partial destruction of
the town of Newark by the enemy's hot-shot; assault on Sackett's Harbour, expulsion of the
enemy's ai-my from Forty Mile Creek, and capture of his army material with many prisoners ;
action at Chippawa, covering the retirement of our army to Fort George ; also its retrograde
in presence of the enemy to Twenty Mile Creek, and until it resumed the offensive ; night
attack on the enemy during his investment of Fort George, when the American General
(Swift) was killed ; action at Lundy's Lane, repulse of the enemy with severe loss by the
pickets under his command on the 5th and 12th Aug. 1814, before Fort Erie ; assault of
F^ort I^rie, and the series of affairs on the Niagara Frontier. Received three several musket
shot wounds at Sackett's Harbour, viz. severally through the left leg, left arm, and on the
right hip. Contused and horse killed at Fort Erie. Medal for services in Egypt.
General Evans has been present in about forty-two general actions and minor aft'airs ; and
honourable testimony has been borne to his services' for distinguished conduct in the field,
io military and civil commands, on about seventy differeat occasions.
