during a portiou of the war of 1847, being in
command of a detachment of tlie 65th Regt.
atWanganui. Commanded the regiment during
the operations at Taranaki in 18o0-6l (CB.).
3 Lieut.-Colonels Young and Murray, Captain
Barton, and Lieut. St. Hill served at Taranaki
during the Maori war of 1860-61.
4 Major MacGregor, Lieuts. Warren,
Bates, and Leonard were engaged in the opera¬
tions at Taranaki in 1861.

I Lieut.General Coles served in India under Lord Lake the latter part of 1804 and the campaigns of 1805 and 6. On
the termination of the war in India lie returned to England; was pronioled to a company, and embarked for Spain; served
Ihe e.amiiaign of 1808-0 under Sir John Moore, including the action at Lugo and retreat to Corunna. Accompanied his
regiment on the expedition to the Scheldt in 1809; landed at Walclieien ; was present at the siege and surrender of Flush¬
ing, and remained with the force on the island until it was evacuated. Joined the army under the Duke of Wellington
in the Peninsula in 1813, was present at the passage of Ihe Bidassoa, the b.attles of the Nivelle and Nive, the passage of the
Adour, the investment of Bayonne and repulse of the sortie. Marched to Bourdeaux and embarked for Nortli America
in 1HI4, was jirescnt at tlic'pa>.-agc of the Saranac and the action of Plattsburg. Served in Canada till Ihe latter part
of 18'2{), when he was promoted to a Lieut.-Oolonelcy unattached. Has received the Silver War SIcdal with three Clasps for
Corunna, Nivelle, and Nive.
5 Major Paul served with the 31st throuijhout the campaign of 1845-6 on the Sutlej. and was present in the battles of Moodltee, Fero-
r.cshah (wounded), Buddiwal, Aliwal and Sobraon : Medal and three Clasps. He carried the Queen's color of the 31ft at Moodkee and
Ferozesbah. Served as Brigade M.ijor throughout the war of 1860 01 in New Zealand (Brevet of Major).
8 Captain tlresson served as a Volunteer in iho Peshawnr Light Horse at Pesliawur during the Indian Mutiny of 1857-
.W. Was on board the ship " Eastern Monarch " when she blew up .and caught Are at Spithead on 3rd June 1859,
II Doctor White served in New Zealand during the war in 1840, and also throughout that of I86O-61.
