1 General Wood served eix years iu the West
Indies. Accompanied the expedition to Hanover
m 1805. lie ne\t served the campaign of 1808-9,
including the Ijattleof Corunna. Subsequently at
the siege of Flushing, he volunteered to storm the
enemy's entrenchments, which he carried; and in
November he was again sent to Walchcren to cover
the embarkatum of the troops when the island was
evacuated. In ISIO he proceeded to the Mediter¬
ranean, where hcserved three years, and on being
promoted, in 1313, to the Lieut.-Colonelcy of the
Soth, he joined the army in Spain. In 1814 he ac¬
companied the S5th to America, and commanded it
at the battle of Bladensburg,where hereceivedfour
severe wounds, had ahorscshot underhim, and was
obliged to surrender himself as a prisoner of war.
He has received the War Medal with one Clasp for
Cnrunna. On 14th March 1951 he was appointed
Commander of the Forces in the Windward and
Leeward Islands, where he served the usual period
of five years.
