June (Medal and Clasp, Brevets of Major and Lt.Colonel, Victoria Cross, Knight of the
Legion of Honor, 5th Class of the Medjidie, and Turkish Medal).
83 Lt.Col. John Turner was present at the capture of Port Natal on the 26th June 1842.
Served also the Eastern campaign of 1854-55,including the affair at M'Kenzie's Farm, the
battles of Alma and Inkerman, siege of Sebastopol, and repulse of the sortie on tlie 26th
October 1854 (Medal and Clasps, CB., Knight of tlie Legion of Honor, 5th Class of the
Medjidie, and Turkish Medal). Received tlio Brevet of Lieut.Col. for distinguished service
at the battle of .â– Vhna in crossing the river with two guns, ascending the heights and en¬
filading the Russian columns. Commanded a troop of Royal Horse Artillery in India in
1858-59.
84 Lt.Colonels Fisher and Clifford served at the siege and f.ill of Sebastopol in 1855
(Medal and Clasp, and Turkish Medal). Lt.Col. Clifford has the 5th Class of the Medjidic.
84tLt.Colonel Gibbon served in the Crimea from 13th May, 1855, in command of a Field
Battery, and for nearly three months the Artillery of tlie 4tli Division, including the siege
and fall of Sebastopol (Aledal and Clasp, and Turkish Medal). Served in India in 1857-58,
was with Outram's force at the siege and capture of Lucknow, where he commanded the
Artillery of Br.Gen. Walpole's Division, and was specially recommended for promotion as
having "distiuguislicd himself throughout the operations, particularly on the 9th and llth
March, 1858.'' Commanded the Artillery of Sir Ilope Grant's Column in the action of Simree
—severely wounded (5 times mentioned in despatches, Brevet of Major, CB., Medal and
Clasp).
85 Lt.Col. Longden commanded the Mortar battery in the operations resulting in the
relief of Lueknow by Lord Clyde in Nov. 1857 (wounded), and at the battle of Cawnpore
on 6th Dee. (twice mentioned in despatches, Brevet of Major, Medal and Clasp).
86 Lt.Colonel Middleton served in the Indian campaign of 1857-58, including the relief
of Lucknow by Lord Clyde (wounded, and two horses killed), battle of Cawnpore, actions
of Serai Ghat (comman<Ied tlie Artillery), Cliauda, Umcerpore, and Sultanpore, siege and
capture of Lucknow, including the attack upon the Moulvic's Mosque and Moosa Hagh,
action of Barree, capture of Ramporc Kussie (commanded the Artillery), commanded a
Truop of Royal Horse Artillery at the passage of the Gogra at Fyzabad, and affair of
Muchagawu (nine times mentioned in despatches, Brevets of Major and Lt.Colonel, CB.,
Medal and Clasps).
87 Lt.Col. Anderson served during the operations on the Yiang-tse-Kiang in China in
1842, including the storm and capture of Chin Kiang Foo; also at the demonstration
before Nankin (Medal). Served the Eastern campaign of 1854-55, including the affairs
of Bulganae and M'Kenzie's Farm, battle of Alma, caitturc of Balaklava, and siege of
Sebastopol (Medal and Clasps, CB., 5th Class of the Medjidie, and Turkish Medal). Served
in India in 1857-58, and was at the action of Pandora where a portion of his troop acted as
Ca* airy; commanded the Artillery of Grant's division at tlie capture of Meangunge, also
at tlie siege and capture of Lucknow (four times mentioned in despatches, Brev. of Lt.Col.,
Medal and Clasp).
88 Colonel H. F. Strange served the Eastern campaign of 1854-55, including the
affairs of Bulganac and M'Kenzie's Farm, the battles of Alma and Inkerman, siege and fall
of Sebastopol, in the trenches with the siege train,and at the bombardments of Oct., April,
and June (0th and 17th): Medal and Clasps, CB., Knight of the Legion of Honor, 5th
Class of the Medjidie, and Turkish Medal.
89 Lt.Colonel Franklin served the Eastern campaign of 1854-55, including the battle of
Alma and siege of Sebastopol (Medal and Clasps, CB., 5th Class of the Medjidie, and
Turkish Medal).
91 Lt.Colonel Hawkins, Major Shaw, Captains Humfrcy and Anley, served in the Eastern
campaign in 1855, in the trenches witli the siege train before Sebastopol, and at the bom¬
bardments of April and June (6th and 17th) : Medal and Clasj), Sardinian and Turkish
Medals. Lt.Col. Hawkins and Major Shaw have the 5th Class of the Medjidie.
92 Lt.Colonel Mackay, Majors Connell, Lennox, Pigou, Newton and Vesoy, and Captain
H. A. Smyth served at the siege and fall of Sebastopol in 1855 (Medal and Clasp, and Turk¬
ish Medal). Majors Lennox, Newton, and Pigou have the 5th Class of the Medjidie.
93 Lt Colonel Grant served in the Eastern cam])aign from 18th .Ian. 1855, in the trenches
with the siege train, including the siege and fall of Sebastopol, and bombardments of Apiil
and June (6th and 17th): Medal and Clasp, Brevet Major, Knight of the Legion of Honor,
5th Class of the Medjidie, and Turkish Medal.
-94 Majors Johnson and Gleig served in the Eastern campaign of 1854-55, includinsrthe
siege and fall of Sebastopol (Medal and Clasp, and Turkish Medal). Major Johnson has
the 5th Class of the Medjidie.
95 Major M'Crea in command of 3 batteries R. Artillery and a detachment of the
41st Regt. (with Capts. Purcell and Tottenham, Lieuts. Richardson, Wardell, E. A.
Cameron, and Saunders ) was present in the revolution which upset the Emperor Faustin
in Haytiin Jan. 1859; landed and protected the Europeans at Port an Prince, and carried
off the Emperor his family and ministers : received the thanks of the English and the
French Governments, and the Brevet of Major.
90 Lt.Col. Henry served in the Eastern campaign of 1855, in the trenches with the
siege train before Sobastopol (severely wounded), and at the bombardments of April and
June (6th and 17th): Medal and Clasp, Brevets of Major and Lt.Col., Sardinian and
Turkish Medals, and 5th Class of the Medjidie,
