1 Lord Gough served at the capture of the Cape of Good Hope, and the Dutch Fleet in Saldanlia Bay,
1795. Served afterwards in ihe West Indies, including the attack on Porto Rico, the brii;and war in ^t.
Lucia, and capture of Surinam. Proceeded to the Peninsula in 1809, and commanded the 87th at the battles
of Talavera, Barrosa, Vittoria, and Nivelle, for which engagements he has received a Gold Cross. He also com¬
manded the Regiment at tlie defence of Cadiz and of Tarifa (slightly wounded in the head). At the
battle of Talavera his horse was shoe under him, and he himself wasafterwardsseverely wounded in the
side bya shell, — for hiscuiiduct in this action the Duke of Wellington subsequently recommended that his
Lieut.Colonelcy should be ante-dated to the date of his Dispatch, thus making him the first officer who
ever received Brevet rank for services performed intlielield at tlic head of aregiment. At Barrosa his
Regiment captured the Eagle of the 8th French Regiment; and at Vittoria they captured the Baton of
Marshal Jourdan. At the Nivellehe was again severely wounded. C'omnuinded the Land Force atCanton
—for which he was made a GCB.—and during nearly the whole of the Oj.erations in China,—for which
service he was created a Baronet. On the 29th i>ec. 1S43, with the right wing of the army of Gwalior, he
defeated a Mahratta force ,nt Maiiarajpore, aud captured 56 guns, &c. In 1845 and 40 the Army under his
Lordship's personalcommand defeated tlie Seik Army at Moodkee, Ferozeshah, and Sobraon, for wliich and
j)revious services he was raised to the Peerage; and, in 1849, he was created a Viscount after his crowning
victory over the Seiks at Goojerat (Medal and Clasps). His Lordship is also a Knight of Charles the 3rd of
Spain.
3 Captain Leslie served in the Eastern campaign of 1854, and wiis severely wounded at the battle of the
Alma, while serving as orderly otnccrio Lord Raglan (Medal and CIas|iS, and Turkish Medal).
4 Captain Hartopp served the Eastern campaign of 18.54-55, including the battles of Balaklava (shot
through me leg) and Tchernaya, and siege of Sebastopol (Medal and Clasps, and Turkisli Medal).
7 Veterinary Surgeon Harpley served witli the Knyiil Artillery the Eastern Cami'aign of 1854-55, in¬
cluding the ati'airs of Bulganac and M'Kenzie's l':ij-m, battles t^f Alrna, Balaklava, and Inkerman, siege of
Sebastopol and repulse of tlie Sortie on Ihe -JUih Oct. 1854 (Medul and four Clasps, and Turkish Medal).
Served in the Royal Horse Artillery in India in I857-.J8, and \vas present at the action of Pandora, storm
and capture of Meangunge, siege and capture of Liickuow, capture of Rampore Kussie, passage of the
Gogra at Fyzabad, and ail'airs of Muchagawn and Kiiinda Kote (twice mentioned in despatches, Medal
and Claip).
