S^6 Medical Department.—War Services.
"' Surgeon Major J . Lamprey served with the 67th Regiment throughout the campaign of 1860^ in North China,
including the action of Sinho, taking of Tangku, storm and capture of the inner Taku Fort, and surrender of Pekin
(Medal with two Clasps). Also served in the operations against the Taeping rebels in 1862, including the recap¬
ture of Kading.
"^ Surgeon Major D. J. Doherty served in the Crimean campaign from 2nd July to 17th Aug. 1855, including the
siege of Sebastopol (Medal with Clasp, and Turkish Medal).
*"" Surgeon Major T. Park served with the Royal Artillery in the Eastern campaign of 1854-55, including the battle
of Inkerman, siege and fall of Sebastopol, and repulse of the sortie on the 26th Oct. 1854 (Medal with two Clasps,
Kuight of the Legion of Honor, and Turkish Medal).
*i Doctor Robert M'Nab served in suppressing the Indian mutiny in 1857-58, and was present with the 64th Regi¬
ment in operations at Cawnpore under General Windham, defeat of the Gwalior mutineers on 6th December,
action at Khalee Nuddee, and entrancelnto Futtehghur (Medal).
'2 Doctor R. B. Smyth served in the Eastern campaign of 1854-55, including the battle of Balaklava and siege and
fall of Sebastopol (Medal with two Clasps, and Turkish Medal).
Surgeons.
1 Doctor C. W. Poulton served the Eastern campaign of 1854-55 (Medal).
^ Surgeon A. H. Fraser sers'ed in India during the mutiny in 1857-58 ; was in medical charge of the Murree Depot
when the station was attacked on the ist Sept. 1857, and in medical charge of the troops employed in the opera¬
tions of the three following days (Medal).
" Surgeon J. Hendley was present in an engagement between the British troops and the Mahometans of Combo
in the Gambia, on the j 7th July 1855, and received contusions on the chest and forehead from musket-balls. He
served also with the combined Forces of the French and English on the 4th August following, when the stockaded
town of Sabajee was taken and destroyed. Served in the 7th Fusiliers in the Indian K.W. Frontier war of 1863 with
the Eusafzye Field Force, present at the defence of the Sungahs at the Umbeyla Pass and at the attack on and stoi-ming
of the Conical Hill and destruction of Lalloo on the 15th December, also in the action at Umbeyla and destruction
of the village at the foot of the Bonair Pass on i5th December which ended in the complete rout of the enemy and
the submission of the hill tribes on the T7th December (Medal with Clasp).
'^ Surgeon H. T. Reade sei-ved in medical charge of the 6ist Regiment at the siege of Delhi from ist .Tuly 1857 to
the final capture of the city on 20th September; was present at the repulse of the sorties of the 4th, gth, j8th, and
23rd July, accompanied the Regt. at the assault of the city on the 14th September, and subsequently with a small
party of the 6ist repulsed an attack of about 300 Sepoys on some wounded men whose lives were thereby saved; on
the i6th September was one of the first up the breach at the storming of the magazine and with a sergeant spiked a
gun—mentioned in despatch, and recommended for promotion for " unwearied exertions and gallant conduct in the
field " during the siege and assault of Delhi (Medal with Clasp, and Victoria Cross).
'^ Surgeon T. Carey served with the 64th Regiment in the Persian campaign of 1856-57, including the storm and
capture of Reshire, surrender of Bushire, night attack and battle of Kooshali (Medal with Clasp). Served in Bengal
and N.W. Provinces in suppressing the mutiny in 1857-58 in medical charge of 500 men, being the head-quarters of
the Regiment: present in the actions of Futtehpore, Aoung, Pandoo Nuddee, Cawnpore, Onao, Buseerut Gunge
(first and second), Boorbcakechowkee, Bithoor, Muugarwar, Alumbagh, and first relief of Liicknow with Havelock's
Column; present in three sorties from the Residency, also at the defence of Cawiipore—severely wounded (Medal
with Clasp, and a year's service for Lucknow).
^* Surgeon J. E. Moffatt served with the 2nd Regiment in the Kaffir war of 1851-53 (Medal).
1" Surgeon H. B. Hassard served in the Kaffir war of 1851-53—horse shot in the Waterkloof (Medal). Also served in
the Hazara campaign of 1S68, including the expedition against the tribes on the Black Mountain (Medal with Chisj)).
^^ Doctor C. W. Woodroffe ser\^ed with the ist Royals the campaign of i860 in China, including the taking of Sinho
and Tangku, occupation of Tientsin, and surren<ler of Pekin (Medal with two Clasps).
" Surgeon B. Tydd served in the Eastern campaign of 1854-55, including the affair of Bulganac and battle of
Alma (Medal with Clasp, and Ihirkish Medal).
-" Surgeon W. J. Ingham was present and in medical charge of the 52nd Light Infantiy at the action with the
Sealkote mutineers at Trimmos Ghat Goorsdaspore on the 12th and i6th July 1858, and at the siege and capture of
Delhi (Medal with Clasp) ,
'' Surgeon T. B. Rei(l served in medical charge of a Wing of the 7th Bengal Native Infantry during the Santal
insurrection. Served in the 53rd Regt. during the Indian campaign of 1857-58, including the' actions of Chutti'a,
Cropalgunge, Khodgunge, and entry into Futteghur, affair of Shumshabad, storm and capture of Meangunge, siege
and capture of Lucknow. Served on the Staff in Oude during the campaign of 1859 (Medal with Clasp).
^^ Doctor Alex. S. Fogo sei-vcd throughout the Eastern campaign of 1854-55 with the Royal Artillery, including the
battles of Alma and Balaklava, siege and fall of Sebastopol (Medal >vith three Clasps, 5th Class of the Medjidie and
T-'urkish Medal).
''* Doctor R. T. Buckle served with the 64th Regiment in the Persian campaign of 1856, including the storm and
capture of Reshire, and surrender of Bushire (Medal with Clasp).
'^^ Doctor C. M. M. Miller served with the 80th Bcgt. during the Indian mutiny in 1858-59 (Medal).
'^'' Surgeon Donald S. Smith served with the gth Jiancers during the Indian mutiny in 1857, and was present at the
actions of Budleekeserai (horse shot) and NujjufJ'ghur, throughout the siege and capture of Delhi—horse shot
(Medal with Clasp).
'" Doctor H. B. Franklyu served the Indian campaign of 1857-58 with the Royal Horse Artillery, including the
attack on Secundra, storm and capture of Mceangunge, capture of Lucknow, with Azimghur Field Force in the affairs
of 9th and loth June (was several times-mentioned in despatches, twice for gallantry and once for general ability
and zeal, Medal with Clasp).
20 Surgeon T. G. FitzGerald served in the Crimea from 8th to 20th May 1855 (Medal with Clasp, 5th Class of the
Mediidle, and Turkish Medal).
™ Surgeon J. S. Chartres served throughout the Abyssinian campaign of 1867-68 as a Stafi" Surgeon, and in
medical charge of one of the Hospital Ships (Medal).
3' Surgeon B. Lane served with the 80th Regiment in the Burmese war of 1852-53, including the attack on the out¬
post of Tomboo and several operations in its vicinity (Medal with Clasp for Pegu). Also during the suppression of
the Indian mutiny in 1858 and present at the action on the banks of the Jumna on the 5th March (Medal).
^- Surgeon A. J. Greer served in .the Eastern campaign of 1854, and up to 5th July 1855, including the battles of
Alma, Balaklava, and Inkei-man, siege of Sebastopol, storming of the Quarries on 7th June, and attack of the
Rodan on the 18th June—mentioned in despatches for " courage, coolness, and jirofcssional skill when under a very
heavy fire in the Trenches " (Medal with four Clasps, 5th Class of the Medjidie, and Turkish Medal).
^^ Surgeon T. W. Fox served with the 14th Light Dragoons in the Persian campaign of 1857, and was present at
the bombardment of Mohumrah (Medal with Clasp).
3' Doctor J. Meano served with the 31st Regiment in the Crimea from 22nd May 1855, including the siege and
full of Sobastopol, and attacks of the 18th June and 8th September, and received a contused wound on the knee
from a shell in the Trenches on i7tli June (Medal with Clasp, and Turkish Medal).
'^■' Surgeon T. K. Birnie served with the 1st Royals in the Crimea from 7th May 1855, includlpg the siege and fiill
of Sebastopol (Medal with Clasp, and Turkish Medal). Served throughout the cnrapaign of i860 in North China,
and was present at the storm and capture of Sinho and Tangku, and sun-ender of Pekin Medal with two Clasps).
■" Surgeon W. Snell served throughout the campaign of i860 in North China, including the action of Sinho, taking
of Tangku, with the Reserve at the storming of the North Taku Fort, actions of the i8th and 21st September, and
surrender of Pekin (Medal with two Clasps, and promoted for " meritorious services ").
'" Surgeon C. Martin was in medical charge of the expeditionary force against the Crobboes in Oct. and Nov.
1858. Served in the Gambia as Sanitary Officer to the Badiboo expedition. Served on board the Torch, and landed
with the stormers of the 2nd W.I.R. in the attack and capture of the earthworks. Was present at the storm and
cajiture of the stockaded towns of Karawan, Kinty Cunda, and Saba, in 1861.
'■'' Surgeon A. Morphew served as Principal Medical Officer throughout the operations in Quiah, Western Africa ;
was present at the capture and destruction of Massongha on 10th December, storming and destruction of the stockades
and war fences at Madonkia on 19th December, capture and destruction of the stockade at Madonkia on the night of
