Scale of Allowance in addition to Half Pay,
1st Class.—10«. 6rf. per diem. 2nd Class.—8«. 6d. per diem.
In the event of the Start' OITicer of Pensioners being subject to additional e-xpense in consequence of his
employment in aid of the Civil Power at a distance from head-quarters, he will also receive a further allowance
of five shilliniisu day while necessarily detained from home, together with the amount of travelling charges
thus incurred by him.

For 76 enrolled men, one sliilling a day ; 100 and upwards, one shilling and sixpence a day ; 200 and upwards,
two shillings a day ; Officers with Brevet rank have two shillings a day in addition.
Any Captain applying to the Secretary of State for War to be appointed a Staff Officer of Pensioners should
answer distinctly the following riuestions as to hi.s qualifications: —
1st. Wliat is his age? Whether on full or half-pay ? Whether serving abroad or at home?
2nd. Has he completed fifieen years' service on full pay, and in what corps?
3rd. What is the date of his commission as Captain?
4th. Has he received the diftercnce when placed on half-pay ? Did he retire at his own request, from ill-health
or from 'wotinds?
5th. Has lie served as Adjutant or Paymaster, or on the Staff in any capacity likely to qualify him for the
duties of Stalt Officer of Pensioners?
6th. Has he certifttates of ability and fitness from officers under whom he served?
N.B. Officers under or above the rank of Captain, or whose appointment would involve immediate Brevet rank,
or who, having received tlie difference, are not prepared to repay it, are ineligible for the api>ointraent of Staff
Officer of Pensioners.
War Services of Staff Officers of Pensioners.
\ Colonel Crofton was appointed Persian interpreter to the force under Brigadier-General Litchfield.in August
1882, and served with it tiirniigliout the arduous operations in Parkur, and against the tribes in the N.W. Desert,
which ended in ihe taking of Balmeer.
2 Mnjor Middlemore serv.'d m ilie latiei' part of the Kaffir war of 1816-47; also throughout that of 1851-63
(Mt'dai) as second senior officer of the Re>erve Battalion 9Ut Regiment, and frequently couiinanded it in various
engagements, and was present in every affair the Kattalinn was engaged in during tlie war; commanded 120
men \uth Eire's Division in his first attack on tlie .'\in;itolas and Noble Valley.
3 Captain Sinclair ser\ed the campaignof 1814 in Holland as a volunteer,and was severely woundedat theattack
on the fortified village of Alerxcm on the 2nd Feb. 1814.
4 Colonel Orange served in the Burmese war in 1825, and has received the Indian AVar Medal for Ava.
5 Colonel Du Vernct served with the 45th Regiment in the Burmese war in 1825-2C.
